Keith Thurman loses the trademark hair, debuts new look for 2021

“One Time” sat out all of 2020 and hopes to fight this year.

Former welterweight titleholder Keith “One Time” Thurman had a pretty signature look for years, sporting longer hair, often braided, pulled back into ponytails and whatnot.

But no more!

Thurman showed off a new look for 2021 on Instagram:

Now I know what you’re going to ask while heartily chuckling: “Slow news week? Ho, ho, ho, hee, hee...”

And the answer is, yes! We had a fight on Jan. 2, it’s Jan. 11, and there’s not a notable fight on U.S. TV again until Jan. 20. It is extremely slow right now! So Keith Thurman getting a haircut IS getting a post!

Some notable comments on the IG post:

• “Fight your barber”
• “Got that Stephen A. Smith line up....”
• “Them braids took that hairline w em”
• “my boy was going bald. He had to cut it”
• “Fire your barber!”

Ah, well, life goes on. The 32-year-old Thurman (29-1, 22 KO) hasn’t fought since losing the WBA 147-pound title to Manny Pacquiao in July 2019, sitting out all of 2020. He talked some about fighting Terence Crawford or Errol Spence, but he and Crawford mostly talked trash about contracts or whatever, and Spence has flatly and quite bluntly said he is not interested in fighting Thurman.

On paper, Thurman’s still a legit contender at 147, but we really won’t know until he fights again. He’s fought all of twice since 2017, and has had a lot of nagging injuries and surgeries and whatnot in that time frame.

It won't help him. He has blown too much resources and time. Injuries, then the loss, then the lockdown. Probably the likes of Porter, Ugas and Garcia will handle him now.

New haircut looks better but it remains to be seen whether it will help him competitively. I kind of doubt it.

Still surprised he didn't beat Pacquiao.

Damn, boxing is dead. An inactive fighter cut his hair.

Thurman ought to be tweeting details of his next fight, not his receding hairline.

I used to be fan of Thurman's (still am to be fair), but with endless injuries and inactivity, he is risking becoming irrelevant.

I know the pandemic hasn't helped, but he was on the disappeared list before the pandemic and he is a big enough name to have got out there once last year, surely?

Ugas would've always handled him. I hope Ugas gets a crack at him.

Completely agree. If he’s serious about boxing and further lucrative pay days he should be staying busy.

I guess he’s not though...must have other things going on and is content to rest on his laurels.

Without motivation etc, his time at the top is done.

Agree, Thurman has managed to lose a lot of relevance. Regardless of who he fights next
Thurman will be a big question mark next time he steps in the ring.
