Who wins sonny Liston of 1960 v Lennox Lewis of 1999 ? I always thought Lewis cause of the size but I rewatched Lewis v Mercer !!!! Liston jab is so much better then Mercers and Mercer does not move his head at all .... would sonny be intimidated fighting a guy 6 foot 5 245 lbs ? .... long story short sonny Liston via decision over Lennox Lewis - just my opinion ? Anybody else have a voice on this match up ?

It'd be a good one. Liston would be a problem for a not quite prime Lewis, but I think Lewis would be able to outbox him for the most part, and possibly stop him late.

Not out of the question that he could be caught and stopped.

Wasn't Zeljko 212lbs? He gave Lennox a pretty scary night, despite not even having a punch.

Jab is key. If Bruno and Mercer can befuddle you with a jab, Sonny's is likely to knock you silly. Lewis sans jab loses his entire game -- if he tries to lob big rights from outside ala Bruno fight he gets KOd; if he tries get physical ala Mercer that's Sonny's fight, who has an inside game. Sonny didn't get KOd till he was 40; Lewis however... Those dingers that repeatedly came within a whisker of landing on Cassius Clay's chin would find Lennie's all right.

Lennox by close decision in a 12 rounder. 15, he gets knocked out in 14.

I got to go with Lewis 1999. The Lewis of 1999 was much improved and superior to the Lewis of 1993-1994. His boxing skill size and durability proves to much for Sonny Liston. Liston is good and he had that incredible left jab but he is giving away too much in a contest with a prime Lennox Lewis. Lewis wins on a late stoppage. Another factor we know Lewis can go the distance not to sure about Sonny in 12 or 15 rounds.

Sonny went 12 with Eddie Machen at a pace. Lewis made to go 12 at a place with Mavrovic battled exhaustion and blacked out in the dressing room.

Also, Lewis and durability in the same sentence? Ok.

Just think how insanely good you'd have to be to beat a peak Lewis with 5 inches and 2 1/2 stone weight disadvantage ?!

It's not dumping on Liston to say he had little more than a puncher's chance early on.

I meant what George really thinks, rather than what self-deprecating, PR George says when a camera is pointing at him.

Lewis out boxes Liston 9/10 times, stops him 5/9 times and Liston wins by KO the other fight which would be most likely in the first fight.
