There is something on YouTube where they catch up with him and he didn't seem good, his speech was bad

I saw some sad shit with Gomez man. Sounds like he isn't doing that well nowadays.

Haven't seen Mike in years but was in regular contact through his best years in boxing. I would most definitely blame boxing for his state now. IMO he should have packed it in after Lear, he was already showing signs, again IMO, then that he'd taken too much stick.

Seems bizarre considering his best result was after that but that's where I'm at. Brian Hughes didn't get everything right, far from it, but he was right IMO that then was the time Gomez should have hung them up.

that last comeback after the McDonough debacle was insanity. I would liked to have seen him pack up after losing the WBU to Alvarez.

Amazing he still got licenced. if ever there was fighter who would be a danger to himself it was gomez.

I don’t think he’s with Denzil Browne since he got out. Then again, Denzil Jr is still in jail. He’s got another son turning over soon so maybe he’ll be back.

I do sometimes find the sport hard when you see guys with major slurred speech continuing. I do wonder if there is a trend between slurred speech and continuing and pugilist dementia

I didnt even give it a thought until after i retired.

There definitely is. If you get cracked on the head enough it will do that.

They’re going to have to look at hard sparring sessions in pro and am gyms.

Won't have helped but he took a lot of shots sparring and in fights. Some just out of sheer bravado and some because of his style. Sad thing is when he wanted to make himself hard to hit he could do. Never needed to be a scrapper but it was how he was wired up.

All the Hunslet boys went sparring in Collyhurst once. Brian told everyone to pack in except Darren Rhodes. He was ruthless about how hard the game is. Danny James had a 6x3 war with Gomez, for free.

His speech was starting to slur at 25 years old and he was considered a shot fighter already at that point before the Arthur upset, he took many many blows to the head
