6'2 steve ward , who usually fights at light heavy, was still fairly trim at 217 when he didnt have to make weight vs thor. now that's taller and heavier than even a lot of the past hw greats were
joe smith is about 190 in the ring, as is sullivan barrera, both fighting at light heavy. jaime munguia fought at 154 but then added 21 pounds by fight time. lemieux fought at 160 then weighed 180 vs spike. for perspective , rocky marciano as hw champ weighed about between these weights, i.e. about 5 pounds between a current lhw and a current mw. he's about the same height and reach as lemieux
it was mentioned in another thread that holmes would be about 190 if he undertook today's cutting practices etc. which other hws, at the size they were, would not be hws today with today's cutting and weigh in the day before?

Most of them surely?
Even Sonny Liston who was a big heavyweight at the time was only around 220 or under for most of his career.

Guys like Ellis and Patterson routinely weighed 200 or less, I think it's a bit of a stretch for heavy set guy like Liston who weighed 220 to come under 200.
I mean, even 6'6" Terrell weighed under 210 in some fights but you're not really going to get that frame under 200 with ease without significant compromise. Same with Cleveland Williams.
6' to 6'1" guys like Zara Foley, Doug Jones, Eddie Machen - Is it going to make them any better? Not really, would they win a title at cruiser in the modern era? Probably.

Seems like more a question of who wouldn't have been able to get down to the current cruiser limit.
Foreman weighed 215-220 in his first career, but has always said he thinks he should have been heavier. No expert on modern weight cutting, but maybe he would have struggled to get to 200lbs.

The majority would have probably been HWs even today, cause it seemed to be their goal. Of course, they would have looked different in comparison to how they had actually been doing.

Could Marciano, weighing 185 in the ring, make light heavy?

Yes of course, he never had to make weight as he was a HW but he could drop 10lbs and pack it back on for fight night. Its not unusual for some boxers/MMA fighters to drop 20-30lbs.
