Is offering Shawn Porter $1 million an insult ?

I was watching one of these podcast clips the other day, Shawn Porter was claiming he was offered $1 million to fight Terence Crawford.
A million dollars today isn't what a million dollars was 10 years ago, however it's still a considerable amount of money.
That said, Shawn did make a good point when he said Kell Brook got $2 million to fight Terrence Crawford, so why shouldn't he get more considering his position and reputation in arguably one of the hottest divisions in the sport.
My takeaway was that Porter is right and this looks like an incredibly low offer, at the very least he should have been offered the same as Brook, a million sounds like a bit of an insult to me.

What say you ?

Was 1mm a guarantee plus ppv upside?

In its face its probably a bit insulting but we never know what offer was made just what we are told on the backend

In other words when dealing with half truths of politics its impossible to draw real conclusions

At the end of the day in all aspects of life you get what you can negotiate not what you are "worth" based on your perceived value

This.

They offered $1m. It’s now up to Porter and management to negotiate.. not just reject and cry about it.

Nobody gives a rats ass about Porter. Sure this PBC entity has been overpaying its fighters, those funds are dry now so thats coming to an end. I dont care if he takes it or rejects it. A fight between two losers, I'm not gonna watch that shit. Besides porter has a really shitty and boring style. I wouldnt say that the fellow is talented.

I believe this succinctly answers the question.

Porter is cool but not a big draw. I give him props as a fighter and especially for coming close versus Spence. His style makes for good fights, but, be serious, who here has ever looked at the calendar and said, “Oh man I CANNOT miss the next Shawn Porter fight!” - no one.

its true that porter isnt really someone with a standout fan base or anything like that, but i mean, when porter is getting 1m or more to fight guys like formella you gotta know when you offer him 1m to fight crawford that he's not gonna accept it

The 1 million offer is trash, so trash that it basicaly ends negotiations before they start.. Porter just got over 1 million to fight a tune up... He got 2 million + PPV to fight Spence. add in that crawford desperately needs a credible american opponent he has to be worth more than that. Also to fight Craw Didn't brook just make 2 million? Kahn 5 million? even Kavaliauskas who is 1/10th the name of porter supposedly got a million... This is the boxing classic of offering someone a fight but with a trash offer so you can say they ducking.

In many cases that's exactly what it is.

depends on the going rate, and in the corna times i doubt a lot of fighters will be getting million dollar purses , i mean porter is now what i would class as a top 4 to 8 fighter could win a lower world title and as game as you come fighter but limited

Covid + a loss + no title to bring to the table.

A million bucks is pretty decent if you consider the above. Best offer he is going to get for the foreseeable future. What else is he going to do this year worth a million? Get older?

If he wins, the rematch will be even better money, one would expect.
He has been lucky to get an offer, the way he fights, using his head as a weapon, some guys have a thing about geting cut up :-?
Would Spence be very keen to go again- even though Porter holds the silver WBC trinket?
33 is career tail end for a Welter, time to make hay.

Im sitting in a gym, present also are Shawn Porter and Terrence Crawford. These gentlemen they approach me and tell me that they will fight eachother there and then for payment, how much am I willing to pay?

Biggest problem here is that I'm really not willing to sit for 12 rounds and watch them fight so this isnt going to be a big sum. I have full access to all my assets so thats not an issue. On the other hand these are great warriors and they asked me respectfully and it is somewhat of an honor to witness them fight and to be in their presance. Then there is the problem that I'm a cheap fornicate. With all this said the words that come out of my mouth are........ 50 dollars a piece.

They won't make this [Spence v Crawford] unless it's a PPV so that means next year.

$1 million, throw 2.5 at Porter with fair judges and a ref in a one off against Crawford.
I'd take that if I were Porter.
Shawn could win that fight.

What is the matter with 2.5 for Shawn Porter ?
Take away the knockdown and he may have beaten Errol Spence.
Do a forensic on that fight.

Look at Spence.
He wasn't gassed against Garcia but he looked tired and vulnerable at certain points.

Duplicate thread.

"Shawn Porter Wants Terence Crawford Fight, But Arum Won’t Budge On His $1 Million Offer"

Shawn Porter received $1.2m for the Sebastian Formella fight. More people usually tune in to see Showtime's bouts than those that watch Bud compete on ESPN.

And let's not forget that Kell Brook (a weight-drained opponent that hadn't defeated a universally recognised top-ten world-rated fighter for more than 6½ years & hadn't won single a bout at 147lbs for 4½ years) was rewarded with a $2m payday for his willingness to engage in last November's mismatch against Terence Crawford.

End of thread. :OhYes:
