On YouTube now. I'm probably wrong but it seems like forever that the only (widely) available version was the short hightlight with dubbed commentary from Earnie's official VHS release. Now the full round is out -- Earnie looks mucho powerful.

You could show a movie on Shavers' back.

A lot of action in that short fight. Ellis should’ve been one of the great light heavyweights.

Shavers’ power is still amazing to behold. But that little move where he holds Ellis’ head with the left just before he whacks him with the uppercut is interesting.

Looks a lot like Lewis' finishing move vs Grant in the same ring, 27 years later.

The referee is terrible. He counts Ellis out and then acts as if he wants the fight to continue and puzzles everyone.

he waves it off a good few times and seems like he'd decided it was done, but he shoulda directed ellis back to his corner instead of just loitering there

It is a little strange. It doesn't look like he actually counted Ellis out, but he waived his hands while Ellis was still down. He should have made it more obvious that it was over. It did look like he was taking a look at Ellis as if he was trying to decide to let him continue when he had apparently already stopped it. It looked like Shavers wasn't sure if the fight was over or not.

Ellis actually looked pretty good for most of the round. He even had Shavers hurt. But with Shavers, all it takes is once punch.

BTW That was the very first HBO Live "Coast to Coast" Boxing event.
I wonder who did the ringside commentary for it ?
perhaps maybe Floyd Patterson who did Quarry vrs Shavers on HBO later that year.

The audio looks (or sounds)to have been dubbed over that footage.
either that or it's taken from a raw transmission feed (?)
HBO should have a complete video-taped record of the evening in their archives .
( or even Don King at his Manhatten office)
has anyone come across a TV listing of that evening ?
( I seem to remember that back in the 1970's HBO use to send
a book-let in the mail what was scheduled to be on during the month both movies and live events).

yeah, Earnie Shavers looked like he was on his way to the top in no time,
but Don King fired Archie Moore as his trainer after Shavers got injured
for the original scheduled date with Jerry Quarry for July 1973,
and replaced him with another trainer and Shaver's could not focus
like he should have'd for that fight.

This fight from December 1973 looks to have been home recorded off of the HBO telecast
(back when home VCR's cost around 2,000 dollars each.)

was a Light-HW fight, Jorge Ahumada (of Argentina) vrs Andre Kendall

IMOP Shavers did not looked as 'ripped" for the Quarry fight.
as mentioned Archie Moore was fired
(reportedly Teddy Brenner asked Don King to do it)
and Don King hired Tiger Brown of Cleveland to train Shavers
