All the details you need to watch the Sean McComb vs Gavin Gwynne title fight

BBN have provided viewers with all the details needed to tune in and watch the championship clash between NI's Sean McComb (11-0, 5KOs) and Welshman Gavin Gwynne (12-2, 2KOs) on the 50th day of the year.

Date

The bout takes place on Friday, February 19.

Venue

It takes place behind closed doors at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton, Lancashire, on an MTK Global show.

Rounds scheduled

12 three-minute championship rounds at lightweight (135lbs).

Titles

The vacant Commonwealth lightweight title is on the line, formerly held by Joe Cordina since 2018.

Undercard Highlights

There's three title fights in total on the free-to-view #MTKFightNight event.

Darren Tetley (20-1, 9 KOs) vs Samuel Antwi (12-1, 5KOs) for the vacant English welterweight title will make for great viewing.

So will Danny Carr's(11-0-1, 4KOs) defence of his Southern Area super-featherweight title to challenger Dean Dodge (9-0-1, 3KOs), which doubles up as an English title eliminator.

I've been wanting to drop to lightweight for a while but there was a delay while we were trying to get a suitable opponent. I had to stay at super-lightweight for one more fight, but now we can put that behind us and push towards big things at lightweight."

Gavin Gwynne: "I've beaten unbeaten fighters before and on February 6th you will see it again."

DP Carr: "I'm going to get this win over Dean Dodge, and then I want the English title next. Ever since I won the Southern Area belt, the English title has been on my radar. Dodge will come for a bit of a fight, which is lovely for me. I like it when they come at me and have a go, because that's where they will leave themselves open and I'll make them pay, so we'll see how this one ends up."

Dean Dodge: "This fight is what dreams are made of. It’s going to open up a lot of doors. I’ve dreamed of this opportunity since being a kid and when I win this fight I’m going to be the first ever professional boxing champion from my hometown of Yeovil. I want to win the Southern Area title, then go on to fight for the English belt. I believe I have an exciting style that is good for tv and I’m never in a boring fight."

Predictions

Tim Rickson, BBN Editor: "Sean McComb is the confident, unbeaten favourite in this fight, but it's his first real step up in levels and he has an experienced guy in front of him who has fought for this same title beore. Because Gwynne has been defeated twice before, I am going with a points win to McComb."

Background

This is Gavin Gwynne's second crack at the Commonwealth crown, having challenged unsuccessfully for it in August 2019 against the aforementioned Joe Cordina. The Lonsdale belt was also on the line that night, but he bounced straight back with a first round stoppage of Olympian Abdon Cesar in his next fight that same year, but soon tasted defeat for a second time in his career when he was halted by hard-hitting Irishman James Tennyson in their August 2020 British title fight, so August is not a good month for him when he fights.

A former Welsh Area champion, 30-year-old Gwynne has failed to win the British title twice and the Commonwealth once, so this is his third shot at a major belt. It's also his second consecutive fight with a Belfast boxer, making this Wales vs Northern Ireland 2 for him.

28-year-old Sean McComb was an elite amateur and hasn't put a foot wrong in the paid ranks yet. He stepped up in his last fight by beating a Southern Area champion in Siar Ozgul to reach 11-0 and set up his first title fight, which he enters as a clear favourite.

The event takes place at the University of Bolton Stadium on Friday 19 February, live in the US on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank, and worldwide on IFL TV.

Undefeated Limerick star Donovan (5-0, 3 KOs) is back following his impressive win over another former Southern Area champion, as he defeated Jumanne Camero in November.

The 22-year-old will now take another step up as he turns his attention to Ozgul (15-5, 3 KOs), who has previously gone the distance with the likes of Viktor Postol, Anthony Yigit and Sean McComb.

MTK Global Promoter Lee Eaton said: “We’re less than a week away from our fantastic MTK Fight Night event but that hasn’t stopped us strengthening the show even more with this superb battle between Paddy Donovan and Siar Ozgul.

“We’ve been looking for an opponent for Donovan for a while, so huge credit must go to Ozgul for jumping at the chance, in what will be the toughest fight of Paddy’s career to date.

“Donovan looks destined for big things in boxing, but Ozgul is desperate to throw a spanner in the works, so it’s certain to be a very interesting battle.”

I like McComb, thought was near flawless against Garrido, he's a tidy boxer when in full flow, i tipped Gwynne to beat Tennyson but he was destroyed tbh, still Tennyson's a monster puncher and McComb doesn't carry that power, if Gwynne can put up the effort he did against Cordina then could he in for a cracker, i fancy McComb on points

ESPN+ picks up UK card on Friday

ESPN+ has a fight card on Friday at 2PM ET/11AM PT from University of Bolton Stadium in Bolton, England. In the main event, Sean “The Public Nuisance” McComb (11-0, 5 KOs) faces Gavin Gwynne (12-2, 2 KOs) in a 12-round tilt for the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title.

In other streaming action:

Samuel Antwi (12-1, 5 KOs), who has won five straight since the lone defeat of his career, will fight Darren Tetley (20-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-rounder for the vacant English welterweight title.

Junior lightweight prospect Dean “El Diablo” Dodge (9-0-1, 3 KOs), winner of seven straight, will take on fellow unbeaten DP “Cannon” Carr (11-0-1, 4 KOs) in a 10-rounder.

Paddy “Real Deal” Donovan (5-0, 3 KOs), a Top Rank-signed welterweight prospect from Limerick, Ireland, will face 20-fight veteran Siar Ozgul (15-5, 3 KOs) in a six-rounder. In his last bout, Ozgul gave McComb a competitive battle en route to a 10-round decision defeat.

In a scheduled six-round battle of unbeaten featherweights, Brad Daws (6-0, 2 KOs) will fight Mark McKeown (3-0, 1 KO).

Dublin-born junior welterweight Pierce O’Leary (5-0, 2 KOs), a former Irish amateur standout, will tangle with Irvin Magno (5-3-1, 1 KO) in a six-rounder. Magno, who turned pro in 2016, has never been stopped in the paid ranks.

Dodge's strength is beginning to slow Carr down. 19-19

Very even fight - Carr's skillz or Dodge's strength, but Carr surely well ahead on the cards.
Dodge is a tough fight, but easy to outpoint - he's so basic.

Antwi was having a huge round but I'm surprised by that stoppage, referee seemed to jump in too quickly after that single right hand whipped home. No doubt Tetley was struggling and hurt to the body but looked a little premature. Decent scrap that.

Also I wish Spencer Fearon would stop comparing domestic level fighters trying to make their way in the game to the likes of Pernell Whittaker ffs, annoying bloke.
