I know such threads have been discussed in the past....but certainly the vibe you get listening to Eddie on Ifl and the like is that Dazn UK might be the slight favourites to get the matchroom uk contact when it expires.

Obviously not a done deal, but it has gone from "just the formalities to sign an extension " to Eddie publically saying how much Dazn uk excites him..

Personally, I think the Sky platform is big and the cross sports promotion is good for the lay fans....but what does it mean if he does join Dazn. What will the production levels be. I dont think promoting wise it will be much different, most promotion now is via social media....but what about viewing figures etc?

What would it mean for sky? Could another promoter fill the void?

It would be an almighty risk. Dearth of quality British fighters and PPV stars fell off a cliff.

The only fight that makes serious money in the UK right now is AJ and Fury. And to maximise that you absolutely need Sky Sports Box Office.

There isn’t really another Promotor - I’m not sure Sky would partner with MTK with baggage it now brings.

Dazn have the Sky UK shows out with UK territory - Eddie has a lot of long term commitment with Sky with snooker/darts etc.

Might be posturing to get best deal and more money for shows - as Boxing is one of the only sports to make Sky a profit because of PPV model.

He’s gonna stay with Sky. He’s already more or less said it. It’s not just Matchroom boxing, it’s Matchroom Sport as a whole.

Boxing is the only sport that Sky actually make more money on, due to the PPV’s.

There was an interview he did for ifl the other day which I thought didnt sound as "some deal" and kept talking about "one platform"

Hearn will be pushing DAZN U.K. to get the best deal out of Sky.

They already do 1,000s of hours of live sport on Sky, they’re the only platform that have shown they can really drive PPV sales and Matchroom have delivered a strong start to 2021 boxing (particularly in light of BT’s struggles) so Sky won’t want to lose them.

This. He'll be back on Sky. He'll use Joshua v Fury as the carrot to get the best deal. If he goes with DAZN in the UK, he's basically creating his own allegedly situation. Then his fighters slowly start leaving to get more exposure elsewhere. There's no way Hearn would do that.

Do you think Sky will be happy that AJ aside, many of the big fights of matchroom fighters will be shown exclusively on DAZN. What would they rather have on their books....Saunders vs Murray or Saunders vs Canelo.

And no I'm not calling Dillion Whyte and Derek Chisora big fights.

I dont think its sustainable in the long term and Eddie will have to make a choice.

To make it sustainable and keep fingers in both pies he's going to have to really separate matchroom uk from the global brand and make more British fighters sign exclusive deals to matchroom uk and therefore fights involving non matchroom uk fighters can go on Dazn UK

Even if it did 100-150k buys (which I think would be very optimistic) then that doesn’t really do much for Sky and would be one of the lowest PPV buy rates or recent years.

They’d much Whyte or Chisora in lower level fights at prime time with 300k buys.

I'd imagine the football on Sky brings in a lot of ppv numbers when they advertise the big fights during adverts, or even the announcers are made to mention it on the broadcasts, lads will be whatsapping their mates to arrange who's gaff they will be ordering it for and who's bringing the create of carlsberg round.

Going purely for a streaming service would be massively risky!

Yeah - they may find some sort of middle ground as they’re doing in the US by offering the bigger fights (Canelo’s last 2 fights) on DAZN through the normal subscription or people can buy them on PPV which comes with future months subscription included. At least then the older demographic who may not be au fait with apps can still buy it and it will be another decent sized revenue stream.

Yes Canelo vs Saunders might not to amazingly well....although depends how it is promoted. The fact that Hatton vs Mayweather wasnt in the UK didnt mean it did badly in the ppv rates...

Plus other factors to consider...without Dazn US and now Dazn UK would Eddie have tried a little harder to get Canelo vs Smith/Saunders in the UK were both would have definately been on PPV...and before you all say no chance I only need to mention GGG, Usyk, Lomachenko, Klitchsko, Linares, Spence, god even Bute as big fighters who have fought in the UK in recent years. Eddie knows the value of fighting at home. Crowd or no crowd Canelo on prime time Sky PPV would have done big numbers.

Dazn are more driven by monthly subscribers than individual viewing figures....so I can imagine they are less bothered by time/location than the sky PPV model.

And what happens if Billy Joe wins. We will then have a new major attraction. Next fight Sky or Dazn? Remember now with the UK arm, Dazn will want a piece of Billy Joe.

I don't think the current model is sustainable and it has the feel like truly domestic action and crap "world title fights" will be on Sky, true elite fights, whether involving British fighters or not on Dazn....Sky cant be happy.

As for the question, who can sky promote.... yes perhaps no one and they will say adios...or yes they might try and build a promoter up and make a promoter an attractive commodity....with a nice tv deal , you dont think boxers would jump ship?

I got DAZN when it was released in my country 4 months ago.
Looking back over that time it hasn't been good value for money, even though the monthly subscription is fairly low, the actual boxing content is pitiful.
I'm not interested in a show about boxing, I want boxing.
And there just isn't enough of it.
I don't care about meaningless titles, or prospect vs journeymen- that does not deserve to be broadcast, or overpaid big mouth tossers avoiding the real challenges.
So I gave it 4 months and cancelled last week.
Get this- DAZN said I could have the remainder of the month before my subscription expired. So I checked the schedule - not one single fight for the remaining 3 weeks
No wonder I quit.

Are you sure there are no scheduled cards? Fight camp starts in 2 weeks time and I'm sure I read somewhere every card is available anywhere in the world.
