I was just wondering has anyone here seen the new Boxing movie Million Dollar Baby staring Clint Eastwood?

supposed to be excellent, eastwood's masterpiece apparently, will be watching asap.

agreed, it smacks of 'feminist fable' but my housemates said it was actually pretty good.

Its a very good movie, no feminsm on offer just a good story with some of the best boxing scenes I've seen since raging bull. One or two unrealistic bits involving the WBA champion but I'd recommned it to all

All reviews I've read see to rate it highly, it's just the plot sounds absolutely awful.

Im not a big fan at all of womens boxing, nor take little interest in it when it happens to be on a live show on Sky etc over the last few years.

But Million Dollar Baby is a much see film. Just go see it, its a treat for any boxing fan and its not often we get real good boxing films to go see

Agree with that shakermaker, I was very sceptical initially but went to see it and it's defo worth a watch.

I intend to see it.

If only the name wasn't so lame.....

I just came across a Jan. 31, 1945 article today during my newspaper research that mentioned Johnny Greco, the "$200,000 kid," was expected to become a "Million Dollar Baby" by the end of the year--meaning his total accrued ring earnings. And a completely different newspaper article--of August 25--reported that Rocky Graziano had become the latest "Million Dollar Baby" the night before. Apparently, this is an old term.

But Eastwood is an actor, it's his job to make you believe is IS the part he is playing.

Whether he does that in this film is of course up for debate.

Harvey Kietel has never been a drunk, corrupt, drug taking Cop, but he did a great job playing one in Bad Lieutenant.

he did well on training that orangutan in every which way but loose, had a hell of a right hook.

I mean, have you ever seen a film where Clint Eastwood plays anything else than...Clint Eastwood. He's exactly the same character in every film he's ever been in.
Plus I think he directed this film as well....

unforgiven, the good, the bad the ugly, dirty harry............the man is a legend

Trust me I hate female boxing and have never watched a fight but the movie is so well done that you don't care if it was a man, woman or dog.

yeah I prefer De Niro but who is better than him??!!

A lot of people say Tom Hanks only plays himself, same with Harrison Ford and Cruise but I don't take any notice so long as the film is good

Yeah they did a piece on that film last night on 60 minutes (a news show) Hilary Swank plays the female boxer. Went on about all her training she did at Gleason's gym for the part.

The film is an adapted screenplay from a story in a book called 'Rope Burns' by the fantastically named 'F.X Toole'. This book is a collection of fictional short stories about boxing and genuinely is one of the best things i've ever read. I can recommend the book very highly, but haven't seen the film so can't comment. Hope it does the book justice but i've got my reservations about Clints(and Hollywoods) involvement too...
