I saw he was like 51-5 or something? Could he have been a world champion in another era in your opinion??

The problem with Junior was that he was the son of senior who was an all time great, so he was constantly compared to his father. He was a very good fighter but not a great fighter. Junior only lost 5 of 64 which is an enviable record and had wins over some good fighters and contenders, including Francois Pavilla, Dario Hidalgo and Ted Whitfield and drew with Sandro Lopopolo and lost on points to Clyde Gray and Donato Paduano. He was never knocked out in 64 fights, but was always compared to his father. He played his father in a very popular movie in France based on his father's great romance with Edith Piaf.

Junior was a pretty good boxer -well schooled- had a great chin -never stopped- but he lacked his father's power. He did beat some good fighters. Ted Whitfield, Francois Nollet, Robert Gallois, Dario Hidalgo and Francois Pavilla and drew with Sandro Lopolo. Any boxer who has a 55-6-3 pro record and has never been stopped should be considered a good fighter but he will always be compared with his father, a giant.

It's not easy being the son of boxing royalty. The emotional beatings by the press, the pressure to perform beyond greatness....

Ronnie Hearns is a good puncher with a soft chin and will forever look insignificant compared to Tommy. Marvis Frazier -a good but not great pro- will always pale next to Joe.

With Chavez Junior it's pathetic, his clowning and total idiocy. His father must feel so humiliated...

There must be film of Junior because I remember seeing his fight with Paduano on TV in USA and there must be film of some of his fights in France where he was carefully promoted.

How many of his fights have you seen... Whitfield never beat anyone worth a damn, Gallois wasnt even considered a regional contender when Cerdan Jr. beat him and wouldnt be for years, Gallois was never near the best welterweight in France much less anywhere else in the world and he avenged that defeat to Cerdan jr., Nollet had never defeated anyone of even domestic quality much less at the European or world level. It says a lot that the best win on Nollet's resume was a decision over LIGHTWEIGHT Ben Said who had lost two of his last three fights and would go on to win just 9 of his next 38. His win over Hidalgo was a hometown decision and his win over a past his prime Pavilla was a joke. Pavilla beat his ass, had the usually aggressive Cerdan backing up, countered him to death, and busted his face like a tomato. I stand by my assertion that Cerdan Jr was average at best but got way more play than he deserved because of his name.

I agree with you he was a well marketed and very well managed club fighter but my point is that at times we are to severe with the children of greatness. I did see his fight with Paduano.

His dad is overrated, though obviously of a much higher caliber. He was Camacho Jr.

My dad knew Abe Greene the New Jersey boxing commissioner so we were able to get
passes to MSG & during the early 70's usually went every Saturday night. We were there
when junior came to America to fight an undefeated fighter. I recall it wasn't the main event
he fought on the undercard a 10 rounder. The other guy won the fight but it was pretty close.
We heard of his father & his romance with the great singer & were rooting for junior.
He wasn't championship material but IMO a respectable fight who had no punch. He was
unimpressive & his hopes of gaining traction here after that fight came to an abrupt end.
Never heard about him after that day.
