I'm not intending for this to be disrespectful, I'm bloody so happy that Hatton and Tszyu is happening. What I cannot really understand is why they've announced the fight as confirmed 6 months before it is taking place.

I mean that is an absolute age... Even Lewis vs Tyson was announced to the press only 5 months before. Other Super fights (like Morales vs Pacquiao) need less time to hype up. Look at Bernard Hopkins, he wasn't even sure if he was going to continue in October - decides to join DLH in December and get a Febrauary fight signed sealed and press conferenced in January. 6 months seems an awful long time for the announcement to have happend.

I'm just asking the question it does seem a long time.... I'm wonder if one or both have made the date so far away so that they can prepare (and make wait fine).

Don't really know why, probably to do with tv money etc, Sky feeling it is the best date to generate PPV sales once the footy season has been finished for a few weeks.

I was actually thinking about this earlier, basically which of the pair will benefit more from the time off. I would guess it is to Tszyu's advantage, he seems to be used to a long time between fights. Having said that Hatton has always been relatively busy, fighting every 3 months or so, maybe the break will do him good as long as he prepares right, stays out of thep ub and all that. We all know he likes a pint and 6 months is a long old time to go. We'll see.....

I assume it is due to USA TV scheduels. I seem to remember Jay Larkin wanted the first Saturday in either May, June or July.

Good points, i presume there will not be any risky warm up fights of course so i think the rest can only benefit Hatton. Tszyu has had an awfully long time off in between fights and don't forget his Mitchell fight only went three rounds so what if he doesn't blast Hatton out early? Will he tire late on? I would think so, because as i mentioned earlier Hatton will have knocked in a few body shots by that point...the delay certainly makes things interesting.

Good points all, my main question is why announce the fight now when it isn't happening for another 6 months. However, I suppose if it wasn't announced untill March then I'm sure the press would be hounding as to why "no deal had been struck".

I think the delay suits Hatton more, he was quite busy towards the end of last year and had the longer fight. Tszyu would have only fought 3 rounds in 2 years.

As long as Hatton keeps his weight under control and stays in light training before going into serious training the rest may be good for him. He has been a busy fighter over the last few years so a little rest before the biggest fight of his career may do him some good.

I think SN wanted April didn't they? It was Tszyu who dictated a late May or June fight I believe - he wanted time off over Xmas/new years.

Of course they have to announce it, because the deal has been struck.

Will this be the first UK PPV with no overseas card involved?

With a main event like this, they probably wont feel too obliged to put on a good undercard.

Tszyu takes 15 weeks to prepare for a fight.
