Hopefully Fitz can come back and face the winner.
I haven't seen enough of Metcalf to make a prediction.

Love this fight, i like Metcalf, looks promising, just needs to get some momentum going, been a couple years since he stopped Welborn for the Commonwealth and has never defended it, was meant to defend against Flatley but then Flatley or his trainer got Covid, not sure why it isnt on the line here, Cheeseman coming off another war, deserved the win over Eggington IMO

Cheeseman and Metcalf don't mind a ding dong, Metcalf is a dirty fighter, is always getting docked points, think this will develop into a tear up, Cheeseman has been there and done it at this level but too many hard fights already and Metcalf has less mileage, think his freshness will see him eek out a decision, think it will go to the wire though

James Metcalf seems to have been around forever. Been a pro for about 10 years but only averaged about 2 fights per year. Has he suffered from injuries?

I haven't seen a lot of Metcalfe either but surely at this level inactivity will hurt him

He’s not bad at all. Real 50-50.

Even fight this I like cheeseman but fancy metcalf to do it we'll see

Cheesman's style is made for a classy operator like Metcalf. Only one winner here.

JJ Metcalf: I've Prepared For Whatever Ted Cheeseman Has Got

James "JJ" Metcalf plans on grabbing hold of his opportunity with both hands when he faces Ted Cheeseman for the vacant British super-welterweight title this weekend.

Metcalf (21-0, 13 KOs) faces Cheeseman (16-2-1, 9 KOs) on the undercard of Alexander Povetkin’s rematch with Dillian Whyte at the Europa Point Sports Complex in Gibraltar on Saturday, live on Sky Sports Box Office and DAZN.

The Liverpool fighter has already won the Commonwealth title during his career, and he is excited to potentially add the British title to his collection.

Metcalf said: “It would mean a lot to me to win the British title. I’ve put a lot of hard work in and now it’s time to make all of that worthwhile.

“I’ve done a lot of sparring for this fight and that will put me in good stead. I’ve prepared for whatever Ted Cheeseman has got. I know he can box or he can fight, but I can do anything to combat that.

“I’m fit and I’ve got the rounds in against some good fighters. I can’t see myself having any ring rust on fight night, and when I get the win in this fight we’ll then look ahead to the future.”

Elsewhere on Saturday’s event, unbeaten fighters collide as Michael McKinson challenges Chris Kongo for the WBO Global welterweight title.

100% correct..... The big Cheese is actually the Big Measuring Stick for Metcalf.

Just got the feeling Metcalf is a bogeyman for Cheese. Should be a good fight mind

I do too TBH. Cheeseman has packed a lot of good opponents into his record. The draw with Conway was harsh and the loss to Fitzgerald was unlucky IMO, but some had no problem with result.

Ted deserves some good luck, but what you deserve and get in boxing can sometimes be two different things.

iam torn on this fight big cheese fan, but still worried what he has left he has had such battles ,i like metcalf as well , metcalf does tuck up well aslo explosive throwing a one 2 , i reckon this will be a battle and half ,i wanna say cheese but i have feeling metcalf might win this

I don't think Cheeseman should meet Metcalfe head on. Box his way into the fight and try to put out Metcalfes fire before turning up the heat in the second half. Easier said than done.

thats it though the cheese can box a bit, he aint just some car cash toe to toe geezer, as he showed in his last fight , i wouldnt give james space though i think he likes teeing off, i think getting up close and boxing on inside for ted could be a tactic just dont trade on metcalf terms

A real quality fight for the British title and terrific performance from Ted

Metcalfe did well in his first serious test but Cheeseman hard earned experience came shining through and concluded matters in fine style.

Brilo33 made a moot point about a key to victory for Cheeseman was ensuring that when he got in heated exchanges it was on his terms, which by and large he did.

Ted can sit back and bask in the glow of victory and getting his British title back

However it's a fight I would like to see, the Scouser always comes to fight and is never in a bad scrap.

Nevertheless by rights Conway and Fitzgerald are both ahead of Fowler in the queue and he should get through them first.
