Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Anderson Silva - Deal Reached For June 19

According to a report by TMZ, 45-year-old MMA legend Anderson Silva has signed a contract to fight 35-year-old former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a boxing match.

The fight will take place on June 19 in Mexico, as part of the card that features an exhibition main event between Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. and Hector Camacho Jr.

Silva was released from his UFC contract back in November 2020 following a loss to Uriah Hall -- but he was adamant he wanted to continue his combat sports career elsewhere ... and now, he's making it happen in a boxing ring.

"When I look back at my journey, I see that nothing has been in vain," Silva says ... "I am extremely happy for the opportunity to test my boxing skills with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

"I train continuously, always striving for resilience and to overcome obstacles. Fighting is my everlasting breath."

The event -- titled "Tribute to the Kings" -- will take place at Jalisco Stadium in Guadalajara and will be available live on pay-per-view.

For years, Silva had pursued a boxing match with Roy Jones Jr. - but the UFC refused to let him box.

Chavez Jr. issued a statement about the fight with Silva - "I have rededicated myself to the sport that I love and I will be ready to face anyone in the light heavyweight division starting with Silva. I will be prepared to be victorious on June 19."

The fight was put together by Keith Schoen of Schoen Entertainment along with Armando Bareno of Global Sports Streaming -- with Jorge Toscano and Saul Rios serving as the official fight promoters.

"This promises to be an epic battle between two superior fighters with a global fan base," Schoen tells TMZ ... "Everyone associated with this pay-per-view promotion and fighting fans around the globe are super enthusiastic to see these two great fighters meet in the ring."

Chavez Jr. is 52-5-1 and coming off a 4th round TKO victory over Jeyson Minda in Nov. 2020.

Silva -- repped by ICM Partners and managed by Talize Sayegh -- is a former UFC middleweight champ. He dabbled in boxing -- he's 1-1 as a pro -- but is widely regarded as one of the best mixed martial artists of all-time.

A stiff boxer vs old MMA fighter. Jr sucks, but still he will handle the 45-year-old non-boxer.

Odd matchup. Chavez will win.

I wouldnt put it past Anderson Silva to beat junior. Where does the reasoning for that come? Many MMA fighters are quite decent at punching. I dont think that Silva would just take this fight to get slaughtered and junior has really become somewhat of a joke.

Some boxers have had relative success at MMA, best example being Ray Mercer. Maybe its time now for an mma fellow to win 1 boxing.

Don't ask me to pay for it but I'd watch this fight.

Charves JR might not be elite anymore but fornicate surely he still wins this very very easily. only way charves Jr loses is if he has been doing 5 grams a day, smoking 2 packs, and drinking a handle of techela most nights.... now that i say that, im betting on silva...

These guys Marcus and Lytle... who did they beat again in the squared circle again? Reggie Striciland maybe? They fought 0 contenders. 0 belt holders. Never got ranked etc. The boxer who got a win in mma was Mercer not those pretenders.

The thing about Holly Holm is that catagorizing her is hard. Is she a kickboxer who had great success doing traditional boxing and then mma or a boxer who also had great success at mma.

she was a boxer and kickboxer, but clearly has tools (ko kicks) that she can apply to mma that most boxers dont have. her kickboxing background has been the most helpful to her, a lot of fights she hardly even throws punches and when she does they are kinda slappy arm punches that she doesnt comit to, youd never suspect she had the boxing career she did if you knew nothing about her

She was a longtime, successful boxer who switched to MMA and was/is successful there too.
Oh......and she happened to be a kickboxer too......as if that's unique.

Holly is a female boxer. Female boxing has always been fringe. With Hollies extensive kickboxing past its hard to simplify her move to mma and success there as a boxer moving to mma and being successfull there.
