Liston was on the comeback trail stopping limited opposition and Patterson was still a contender.
Did Liston have his number, or would Patterson win the 3rd fight?

Liston destroys him again .If Patterson runs, he could last a few rounds, in my view.

Sonny Liston has his number. He whups Floyd Patterson every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I don't think that Floyd would have looked for a third fight, though.

Patterson losses quickly again. I compare it to Foreman-Frazier and even Tyson-Spinks. A bad matchup and a quick painful defeat. I do not see what Patterson could have done to keep Sonny off him.

Patterson was never the same after Liston. With Liston being declined it would just last a little bit longer. In any case I don't see Floyd surviving more than 5 there.

Some of Patterson's best performances were after he fought Liston; the win over Machen and the Chuvalo fight in particular.
In a third fight against Liston, Patterson may have learned his lesson and been more cautious. He could have lasted longer. Almost no way he would have won though.

We find ourselves in full agreement!

I'd like to opine, but if I knew I wouldn't have asked.
By 69-70 Liston was pretty shot. By then Patterson may have won. Patterson had a clean lifestyle from what I know; Liston not so much.
