Evgeny Romanov vs. Dmitry Kudryashov in Play For WBC Silver Bridgerweight Title, May 22

Cruiserweight world title challenger Dmitry Kudryashov of Russia will fight against compatriot Evgeny Romanov on May 21 in Khimki near Moscow. The organizers of the event revealed the contest to Igor Lazorin.

At stake will be the silver title of the World Boxing Council (WBC) in their new bridgerweight division, and the organizer of the event will be music performer Vasily Vakulenko (Basta).

“I already owned a silver belt in a lower weight, the transition to a new weight category is a new challenge, a new stage in my professional career. I am grateful to the WBC for the high assessment of my level and the opportunity to box in the qualifying match, to try to become a world champion. This is my plan and my goal for the next two fights," said Kudryashov.


Kudryashov took part in the Grand Prix of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS), boxed for the world title of the World Boxing Association (WBA) and was knocked out by Yuniel Dorticos.

The Russian boxer previously owned a silver belt and the title of champion of the CIS and Slavic countries according to the WBC, as well as the international WBA belt at cruiserweight.

He now has a record of 24 wins (23 by knockout) and three defeats.

In amateur boxing, Romanov became the world and European champion, the champion of Russia, and a three-time silver medalist of the Russian championship. In the amateur ranks, he knocked out former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder.

Romanov has an undefeated professional record with 15 wins (11 by knockout) and not a single defeat. He holds the WBO's Global heavyweight title. He knocked out former world champion Sergei Liakhovich in two rounds back in November.

Romanov should face given HW a real go.

Maybe BW is easier access to world title.

But then bigger money at HW

A nice matchup. The title and the weightclass suck though. Romanov isn't proven, but he has looked regular up to the date. Yet this can be enough to stop Kudryashov, who can't box at all. I predict Romanov by KO. Although I won't be surprised, if Romanov blinks at the wrong moment.

I'd pick Romanov to win. He's 34 now so it makes sense to aim for a world title at Bridgerweight. A shot at Fury or Joshua is several fights and at least a couple of years away. He doesn't have the time to go that route especially as other 30+ former elite amateurs will have similar ambitions at Heavyweight, and have natural size advantage over Romanov.

What a shame Kudryashov never made the grade. He looked very interesting for a while.

kud though limited as hell is fun to watch, ko or be ko'd and sure doesnt drag it out. i like this matchup, probably romanov kos him

I can't read anything there but it seems legit as it's a verified Youtube account. It's been music performances and highlights for a while now so no idea where in the show it is currently at.
