How do you rate women’s boxing

This topic maybe a little controversial to some and I apologise if anyone takes offence but how do people see the state of women’s boxing?
It’s pretty common for Women to fight for world titles after 5 or 6 fights, is this down to the poor standard of the women boxers available? just a lack of women in the sport or that the ranking systems are different for men and women?
If you compare it to the men’s game only really a hand full of fighters box for world titles after 5 or 6 fights mainly Japanese boxers, ok Loma being the exception and the German heavyweight years back (the Olympic gold medalist).

How many women boxers are there compared to men? I reckon there must be 10 times more men.

It's rubbish really, there are few world champs that can really fight and they have to defend against poor fighters as there is no depth.
A good example is Shannon Courtney. She had some build up and I first saw her against an opponent who she got beat by.
The opponent than won a world title off that fight and Courtney now has a world title fight.
Neither of them can fight for toffee.
In reality good fighters like Katie Taylor has had to defend against this rubbish because there is no one else

it's a steamy pile of turds, still too feather fisted low quality and still too focused on the wrong things.
look at the upcoming 'world' title fight. one who got beaten off the first decent opponent she faced. the other a social media fraud. 6 wins vs 5 wins. hyped on the fighters appearance while a far better female fighter on the undercard hardly gets a world.

And the opponent wasnt decent, just less hopeless!

Shite they are a cheap way for the likes of hearn to fill a sky card in place of what should be competitive proper boxing matches.

I don't understand the 2-minute rounds. As soon as the fight gets going, it's round over.
Rachel Ball is a triathlete and Marathon runner but can only box for 20 minutes

I’ve watched a girl knock nearly everyone out, European champion, loads of others, she’s 12-2(11). She can box. At 14.

Even in the most common weights (by that I mean that obviously an athletic woman over 200lbs is fairly uncommon) there is at least that. I haven’t looked recently but I think when Savannah Marshall was set to fight for the light heavyweight world title and I think there were less than 100 active light heavyweight females ranked by boxrec.
In terms of women’s boxing I don’t mind it every now and then and there are some entertaining evenly matched fights it’s just a case you have to accept that the standard is going to be lower. When it first started being aired over here I made a lot of money by betting on fights to go the distance as the bookies didn’t adjust to shorter fights and shorter rounds early.

i think even the divisions with the most women only have like a few hundred tops, if that

Personally it doesn't interest me, nothing against it, just not for me. It's amazing to me that Nicola Adams became so famous yet she only had 5 pro fights. I appreciate she won two Olympic golds but the overall skill levels and the amount of decent opposition makes it a much easier path.

It is getting more stick than it deserves. It does need more time to develop and it needs to go to three rounds asap.
Women's boxing has really two very top fighters such as: Taylor & Shields. Who are the only debate for P4P #1. This will hopefully develop in time. The likes of Terri Harper and Rachel Ball are worthy World champions as they are good fighters.
As for this weekend, this is a joke. courtenay is what wrong about women boxing. A complete hype job with barely any fights on her weak record. Who has an awful attitude getting a world title because she thinks she didn't lose the fight against Ball.

Someone mentioned here they were reducing the number of male weight classes To increase the amount of female weights at the Olympic games. If so that’s an absolute disgrace.

I don't begrudge female boxers making a living but making them main or co-main event billing I mean what the hell.
A well matched area title fight would be miles better than most female "world" title fights.

That would be awful. I remember when the AIBA removed the men's super heavyweight division for a period. They seem clueless.

So I just checked on boxrec: there are 20031 male boxers active versus 1423 female boxers. So there are 14 men to every women.

It's clearly come a long way, but I still dont watch it. Of course, they have every right to do it, but I wish it wasn't on the same shows as the mens boxing. I just don't enjoy it unfortunately.

It’s getting better but very shallow pool of tallent. women’s boxing clearly needs just one belt. If it had one belt per class then it would limit some of these rank world title fights against novices.
Would take away some of the ridiculousness, like that American girl with 10 fights and 7 belts being held currently...

Savannah Marshall is defending her world middleweight title against a 44 year old with a record of 19-6-2.
Only 9 of her 19 wins were against opponents with a winning record .
She regularly fights at c150lbs so is at least 10lbs naturally lighter than Savannah.
Savannah is a good fighter but women’s boxing as a whole sucks .
Too many belts not enough talent.

44?! I had no idea. She's also 5 and a half inches shorter though looks a foot shorter at the weigh in. Does anyone know what women boxers get paid for world championship fights? Because it seems like any woman could take up boxing and get a world title fight within 2 years. Truly awful and an insult to male boxing champions to consider them of the same status. I'm sorry to say that but there can't be another other sport where it's so easy to be 'world class' with so little talent.

What I also don't understand is how top-ranked pro Delfine Persoon has lost two amateur fights while being a top-ranked pro.

Looking at the heavyweight division there's only 13 ranked boxers on boxrec and as far as I can see none of them hold a World title.
Given, as I said higher up, that an athletic woman of over 200lbs is unusual I don't think it would be an outrage to have a look at the female weight divisions and cut out a lot of the higher weights. Maybe draw the line at 168 or 175 and have anyone over that as the heavyweight division.
I know It'll get the usual 'they should do that for mens boxing too' line. In UFC I think after Megan Andersons recent loss to Amanda Nunes I think they are doing away or pausing the 140lb division completely, and in boxing we have 6 divisions above it.
