As WBN reported first, multi-weight superstar Manny Pacquiao wanted to bow out of Las Vegas this year with a final fight in the boxing capital of the world.
A fight with Mikey Garcia at the MGM Grand in a farewell to the Nevada state was looking likely at one point this year.
As with the pandemic’s ever-changing climate, those plans may have to alter if the Filipino Senator wants to face Terence Crawford instead.
Reports from Top Rank are rife that Crawford has offered Pacquiao the opportunity to fight in the Middle East on June 5th.
This scenario would scupper long-drawn-out negotiations with Garcia.
Crawford’s trainer Brian McIntyre has now confirmed that the Middle East will be the only option for Crawford due to finances during the current climate.
Therefore, if Pacquiao wants to take up Crawford’s offer, his Las Vegas hopes will be dash until at least the end of the year.
The ‘Pacman’ is potentially eyeing just two more boxing matches before walking away to bid for the Philippines’ Presidency in 2022.
Should the Crawford encounter pan out, it could mean Pacquiao has to choose between Vegas and a Philippines goodbye for his last bout.
McIntyre appeared to state that Crawford would fight away from home, with or without Pacquiao in the opposite corner.
“We’re going to fight on June 5th,” McIntyre told Town Bizznizz on YouTube.
“We’re looking at the Middle East. We got a couple of opponents on the chopping block.
“I can’t say right now. But Terence Crawford is definitely going to go through in the Middle East.
“That’s where all big money is, right? We’re almost at the end of his career.
“He probably got a couple of years left. So you got to maximize the star-power that he has and get the guys that he wants.
“If it’s Pacquiao, if it’s Spence, if it’s Porter if it’s Ortiz. Whoever it is. If they don’t like it, I can’t do too much about it.
“The fans want certain fights. But sometimes, the stars don’t line up for those fights to happen. Sometimes the stars do line up like Bud’s next fight.
“As we’re looking at it, it might be Pacquiao. Or it might be the next biggest 140-pound fighter that is coming up in the division. Let the man fight. That’s all we want to do.
“Let him prove he’s the best man in the division. Let him take on all challengers and knock him down as he comes in."
More details will come in the coming days.
Thoughts?

Pacquiao wanted Crawford he should've wanted him before now.

Boxing is killing itself with this kind of garbage. Pacquiao should have already fought Mikey Garcia and the next fight should already be scheduled, Crawford or whoever else. No one is interested in the fake drama, the months of posturing and trash talking and tweets and supposed negotiation. Every year I'm less interested, spend less time watching fights and following the boxing 'news'. Watching a sport I love die a slow, ugly death by cancer is sad.

I’m in the same boat. Sick of the media drama and the fact that the good fightS (on paper) are rarely made. Boxing needs a culture change.

it seems like a broader thing, like some general societal obsession with dat flash and cash or something. tons of boxing fans themselves these days seem to care more about the drama and 'business' than the fights, some of them you wonder if they even watch the action in the ring
i once saw on another forum, dudes agreeing that it would be better to take 10 million out of a 15 million pot, then to take 1 billion when your opponent gets 10 billion. dudes just cannot get sh!t done cause they are so obsessed with dick measuring, and each guy wants more than the other
of course, it's long been a problem in boxing --- there have always been fights that never got made that shouldve, but defo seems more pronounce dnow than ive seen
fights like craw vs spence are already past their peak

I’m sure you’re right. Social media would have had a huge impact. I believe it contributes to that flash and status type bs. It’s just a shame because this is meant to be a professional sport. Like how many of the good fights do we see a year, maybe a handful. Now when I say good fights I mean, the fights the fans clamour for and the best opponent I.e top dawg v genuine number 2 in the division.
Anyway, you know all this, we know all this. Just a shame.
Don’t get me started on Crawford Spence. Ridiculous. Leonard fought hearns when he was 21 ffs. But obviously things are different now, for the worse.

Why would Manny fight Terence if he can get more funds for fighting Amir Khan? Hasnt Manny made hundreds of millions of dollars? Are 10 million more really going to change anything for him?
Manny will fight Amir Khan in Manilla, this talk of middle east this and crawford that is only those fighters publicizing that they have made their services available if requested, nothing more.

I'm all for Pacman doing it in the ring as he knows his shit thoroughly.
Presidency......wow.
I think Manny is a good guy and means well but cmon. Manny should be endorsing somebody much more qualified than himself rather than running for it.
Manny wins Philippines President 2022. Duane The Rock Johnson wins POTUS 2024. At that rate Anthony Joshua will become Queen Of England in 2026 and full blown Idiocracy will have commenced.

Does being a boxer disqualify him as a presidential candidate in your world?
Manny has held public office since 2010, first as a congressman then as a senator.
A presidential candidate who had previously served as a senator and member of congress?
Yeah, that never happens.

Why would the President of the Philippines need to speak English? Well, there are a few reasons admittedly but I think speaking his own language is more important. All Hail President Manny.

To be fair, he's been competing on US shores for more than two decades. And English-speaking fight fans have been his main source of income.
And the vast majority of world-leaders he'll be dealing with (assuming he does win the presidency), will be communicating in English.
In fact, it's actually quite bizarre that hasn't bothered to gain more than a fundamental grasp of the English language.
Canelo's grasp of English (which he only recently started studying) is better than Manny's, and there are fewer reasons for him to learn it.

With all of the general worldwide mistrust of career politicians and political processes, it would be no surprise to see Pacquiao elected as president next year.
No surprise at all.
As things stand here in the UK I'd be tempted myself to vote for someone like Frank Bruno rather than the wholly untrustworthy Johnson, Hancock, Sunak etc.
At least Frank might tell you like it is, instead of all of this perennial spin and corruption.
The Labour party unfortunately, with all of their in-fighting, still seem to be determined to remain unelectable.
Trust in politicians and leaders has to matter, and right now there doesn't seem to be too much to speak of.

His English is fine. He’s able to understand English and respond appropriately. A few things trip him up such as ‘cleto Reyes’ but other than that he can be understood. His accent or delivery, whatever you call it, is endearing to the western audience.

Wait what, Canelo’s English is better than Pac-mans, when did this happen? I don’t think I’ve heard more than a couple words from Canelo.
I call bs on that. Typical though.

Canelo doesn’t need a translator to explain the questions he’s asked.
And in terms of English grammar, he’s often asked complex questions.
He says he fully understands English (even when interviewed by someone with a particularly strong Scottish accent), but chooses not to speak it.
Here's an extract of a Boxing News article:
Though we need the translator to relay Canelo's answers, the former two-weight world ruler doesn't require those services for our questions - he understands English very well. The problem, for him, is that speaking it fluently is much harder. Alvarezisaperfectionist, and one gets the feeling that he won't start publicly speaking in English until he can comfortably recite the works of William Shakespeare in it.
He's been taking lessons for a while and, when pushed to, treats us to a taste of the fruits of his labour.
"It's getting better, it's getting better. I understand a lot but it's very difficult to speak, but little by little," hesaysinunbrokenEnglish.
He switches back to his native tongue to discuss the importance of learning ours, insisting that it is very important for his profile. Plenty of other fighters before him, including Cotto, Wladimir Klitsch ko and Manny Pacquiao, have seen their stock skyrocket after learning English.
A few moments later, we're given another nugget of English. As Canelo picks upa mobile phone buried in the bundle of Dictaphones laid out in front of him, he quickly realises that it's not his own but a reporter's, who is using it to record the interview.
"Nice phone," he chuckles, before picking up his own identical mobile and checking the time.
Did you not even notice that? How often does he need someone to explain the question? His translators don't even bother to attempt to do it for him.
His English pronunciation of words, when he does speak, is at the very least comparable to Manny's.

None of what you have written proves that Canelo has better English than Manny. Manny can understand and relay back in spoken English. Whereas you admit that Canelo can only understand but needs an interpreter in response.
One day Canelo will get there. Until he does...Typical BS from EO.
