Saw Conor Benn at 1/4 to beat Khan and am a bit shocked by that. It got me thinking about some of the crazier betting lines down the years.

Chisora for example was odds on to beat Fury the first time they fought. Any older heads remember any standout mad lines from the 80s and 90s where bookies got it all wrong?

Didn’t Hagler start as a warm favourite v Hearns but all the Detroit money came late for Tommy and they went off nearly pick ‘em?

I remember when Leon Spinks fought Gerrie Coetzee in Monte Carlo in 1979, Coetzee was a huge betting outsider. Even Boxing News gave Coetzee absolutely no chance. Spinks had looked terrible in his previous fight against Muhammad Ali in New Orleans and a spell of inactivity afterwards was hardly going to improve him. Coetzee was unbeaten and had proved himself the best fighter in South Africa in brawls with Kallie Knoetze, Jimmy Richards, Mike Schutte and Pierre Fourie. He had also beaten a few decent Americans. He made a mockery of the odds when he blasted Spinks to first-round defeat, dropping him three times.

there was a tank davis fight vs some obviously way overmatched guy, i think it was cuellar, where you could get like 1/2 outright on davis when it shouldve been 1/100. cuellar hadnt fought in 2.5 years, was coming off a loss, and was moving up in weight. he was obviously gonna get pounded and did

buglioni was like 1/3 to beat meng, which made absolutely no sense to me

also got easy money on ramirez being underdog vs hooker, which is another i didnt understand. mo is a total sloppy slapper

Tony Thompson for the Price rematch I can’t remember the odds but it was easy money.

Enzo Mac v RJJ also springs to mind. Was it 9/2 or something daft for Ko him? Insane.

i think price was the favourite for his first 4 losses , he mustve won some people some good money

McClellan v Benn was waaaay in McClellan’s favour but nobody seemed to consider he’d only boxed about two minutes total in two years, away from home in a packed hostile London arena (hardly a quiet Albert Hall like his last visit v Mugabi) and Benn was the established WBC champion at a weight Gerald had never fought at..... AND it’s Nigel Benn (!) capable of 1) shocking the world (v Barkley) and 2) finding huge bombs from the floor while out on his feet (v Logan)

I made money from Clinton Woods v Tavoris Cloud in 2009.

Cloud was not well known but Woods was fighting in Clouds' hometown on a Don King promotion. King was Clouds promoter.

Cloud was 4/7

I piled on and made 1800 quid. Bet 365 were not happy. They asked me if I was part of the promotion!!!

One of Joe Joyce’s early fights was 16-1 for him to get a 1st round ko, think it was Betfair and all the other bookies had it about 2-1, I made a nice few quid that night! The opponents Surname was Palmer

Couldn’t argue with that. Think he was 8/13 the stoppage.

Cant recall the odds but ended up winning a pound or two on Mayweather by stoppage over Hatton. The odds definetly got better closer to the fight as well.

I think Katsedis was something like 4/1 or 9/2 to beat Kevin Mitchell.

McClellan certainly proved his chin in round 2. It was too good for his own good sadly

Anyway, I’m sure you’ve forgotten, it’s 23 years ago today Eubank was beaten by Thompson.
