I don't but it's front page news today. People are ranting and raving about how a proposed new European Super League will destroy domestic football. There is a loud backlash. DAZN are purportedly in the frame to get the broadcasting rights.

If some of the boxing people I know are as avid football fans as they claim, and as anti-ESL as they claim, they will surely be sacking off DAZN immediately. If they don't, they have no credibility.

It’s not even confirmed it’s on DAZN! I would have thought all of the broadcasters will be going after it - including Amazon/DAZN, the traditionals and more.

I love football, I’m anti ESL but its far too premature to be cancelling when there’s frequent good boxing on the platform and the broadcasting deal is still to be confirmed.

I don't think so. Eddie, like the owners of the clubs establishing the ESL, knows full well that the public will bitch and moan for a while and then shell out anyway. DAZN and similar is, I think, still the way forward.

I think what'll throw a spanner into the works is banning players from playing in the world cup and euros .This will matter to some and I don't see how they overcome this .

Better cancel SKY as well, because they're not distancing themselves from it either.

I might be wrong here , but I think the landscape with football fans is changing , when I was a lad around here a massive percentage of kids kicked a ball around . Other than organised matches I just don't see jumpers for goalposts anymore on local greens , I think kids are losing interest and into other things .
Not too far down the line this will have a big impact on viewing figures .

No - I’ll be shelling out for boxing. If the price becomes crazy because they’ve paid stupid money for the ESL then I’ll cancel.

The price will become crazy if football is included. I'm old enough to remember when sky was completely free ( after you have bought the box )
Obviously not sustainable , but I really hope dazn fail to get any sort of football and we can get boxing access for sensible outlays .

Storm in a teacup. Nothing is set in stone yet. Savvy observers feel the clubs involved are merely positioning themselves to be able to hold uefa to ransom for a bigger share of the current Champions League revenue. Negotiations will ensue, compromises will be reached and not much will change.

The Premier League didn't affect the football pyramid - only the money behind the scenes.
No comparison - the ESL is evil.

Right or wrong, football is now a global sport and people want to see the best play the best. The huge Asian/American markets aren't bothered about watching Crystal Palace or Brighton.

Money - which is all that matters in football now.

Any fans who believe the club they support gives a toss about them beyond the amount of revenue they can generate from them is deluded.

I used to love football as a kid. Regularly went with my Dad and stood on the terraces and watched my local club. Lots of characters back then, and many of the players were from and grew up around the area, and there was a real community feel to the club. No matter how poorly the team played you genuinely felt the players cared and as fans you felt "part of something".

Now its just watching brain-dead millionaire perverts diving around the pitch, kissing their shirts one minute and then signing a contract elsewhere the next. All the kids I see walking to school when I'm dropping my nipper off have Man Utd, Real Madrid and Barcelona school bags.

The game is an absolute joke compared to what it once was.

The issue is that footy is already a bloated, corporate beast exploiting fans for money, but it can still pretend to be the same sport that began with clubs in the 1860s.

Our traditional club game has gone and it's just companies selling sporting content to viewers - no more worthwhile, historic or meaningful than your vulgar American sports "products" and "franchises".

The EPL and the FA, and EUFA, and FIFA need to take a long look at themselves. They need to realise that these teams are just doing what they've seen those above them have done. The toothless Fair Play thing, and the bottling the big punishments.

Fifa and Eufa taking bribes, the Qatar world cups, the scandals that broke out a few years ago
The FA letting some unfit owners take over teams (the situations with Bolton and Bury).

Now, strip the 6 teams from their league placing. Kick them out before the end of the season. It'll make the league a hell of a lot more interesting (we'd get a 2 horse race for the premier league between Leicester and West Ham), we'd have actual competition at the top of the Premier League that would mean a really exciting mix up the next few years.

Move towards a 50+1 model for all clubs who head towards new ownership (current owners are allowed to avoid this but can't sell the team in full without the fans getting a stake)

It'd level the playing field and make the EPL a hell of a lot more interesting over the next 5 or 6 years.

Growing up watching late 80s early 90s football I cannot stand watching the football of today or even of the last 20 years.
