How did Kay Prosper manage to get European title shot?

Challenges Sandor Martin for the European Super Lightweight title top of the bill on DAZN tomorrow night in Spain, im not digging him out, I'll be rooting for him

He's 14-1-1, no noticable names apart from journeymen, he's English champ, how the hell has this come about, he's far from 1st boxer to get an undeserved title shot but topping the bill on a Matchroom card, is he even signed with Hearn? Eddie's known to get his guys unwarranted title fights but how come Prosper got the gig and not one of his other Super Lightweights??

Am i missing something?

There's always a few who slip through the net sometimes.

Prospere had also defended his English title to add a bit more form, but it's true, he's a man who was in the right place at the right time.

Good luck to Kay, at 36, he hasn't got time to lose.

Hope Prosper does it he's defended his English belt 3 times which is a great achievement at that level. It's nice to see when fighters like this get an opportunity, really hope he wins.

I think it's a sign of the devaluing of the European titles at some, but far from all weights.

Looking where we are, Joe Joyce, David Avenesyan, Samir Ziyani, winner of Gago/McDonnell, Gamal Yafai and Lee McGregor, are all good quality champions who have won/defended in the last year against relevant opponents.

The rest is very hit and miss, and reflects the prioritising of going for one of 4 (at least) world titles through those ranking Intercontinental belts etc. rather than really proving yourself as a true British/European #1.

I think Rendall Munroe went straight from English to EBU title. I’m not comparing them as Munroe was a very decent boxer but it does happen now and again this big step up.

There have been other boxers down the years who got surprise cracks at the European title, not just Prospere.

Was Spencer Oliver that much more qualified than Prospere ? :stop: I know Spencer was clearly going places and rated highly (with a massive following), but I think he was only Southern Area champion. And Spencer turned to be a good champion.

Not a bad effort from Prospere :TU:

Even if he had been able to beat Martin, no way was he going to get the win. I doubt a KO would have been enough with that referee :shame:

Two disgraceful point deductions. The ref was gunning for Kay, who did well to maintain his composure in the face of such scandalous officiating.

Give me a British referee any day of the week :TU:

The referee set his stall out very clearly so that Prospere wasn't winning under any circumstances :shame:
