His brother had a pro fight, O'Dowd is the surname. I'm sure Boy George never boxed but he came from a big family and many of them boxed, the family had a rep.

His brother did a quadrathon the same year as my dad. 2 miles swimming in Brighton sea, 50km race walk, 100 miles round Brands Hatch then a marathon. I've got the video. Last I knew he was away for murder. Probably out now.

They actually printed posters for boy george vs lenny mclean and booked the rainbow theatre at finsbury park.

Mclean was past his best by then though and he accepted taking on a fight as dangerous as that at his age would be too risky.

He and Marilyn used to go to the West Ham club for sparring. Apparently he got involved in a total war with Kaylor one time.

Gerry his brother had one fight. I saw it on the undercard of the George Foreman bill in London.

Gerry was quite athletic looking but unfortunately had a mental illness that caused his to kill his wife I believe (don't quote me on the wife though)

It got banned after two people died (the race).

Walking around dressed like that took some serious balls in the 80’s. I’ve no doubt he’s no stranger to the odd pavement scuffle as a result. He always referred to himself as a poof with muscles.

I will always respect how when the paps turned up to photograph him sweeping the streets as part of his community service, he told them how he didn’t give a fornicate. That his dad was a street sweeper and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. He then proceeded to get proper stuck into it.

Remember well , coming home from the pub one night to , my wifes freinds for saturday night buttys after the pub , , there teenage daughters were up , and put some culture club song on ,, and i said , i like this song , the girl lead singers got a great voice ,, , could'nt understand why the girls all cracked up laughing , , i did'nt believe them when they told me she was a he ... still did'nt mind there music ,,I must of been naive , they were playing there music all the time in a club i was working the door at the time .

As far as I know George hated sport. he may have gone to the gym a few times to try and fit in but it wasn't for him. Tough man from a tough family, though. He got slaughtered every day at school by pricks on his case about his sexuality. If you can ride that out and not string yourself up you are tougher than most fighters in my book. Great musician and DJ.

It's maybe time for an exhibition fight against someone.

Good point. George was skilful and tough but just like getting battered around the ring too much to be a successful amateur.
