Fastest fighters at closing the distance?

Just watching Fighting Harada.

There’s him.

Duran at 135 esp younger days

Jung Koo Chang.

I’ve never seen anyone close distance more quickly and disorient their opponents so badly with their ability to do so, than these three.

Who else who would you say closed the distance really fast?

manny will literally run at opponents sometimes lol

currently, i appreciate julio cesar martinez's ability to close distance fast. part of this ability is being able to punch on the move. so many guys have to be set or they wont throw

roman gonzales isnt particularly fleet footed, but he has that excellent ability to throw crisp hard combos while keeping his feet moving and hence it's hard to simply get out of danger by getting on your bike

for me, it's perhaps the most underappreciated ability in boxing -- to feel comfortable and to keep punches going while you're moving forward/to the side. hugely valuable vs any sort of mobile 'boxer' type

Yeah I tend to think of his rolling and dipping but he sure made the ring small :TU:

Yeah for real. Was into Arguellos grill before he could stop him over and over.

Yeah really good points, it’s what probably unites all the names mentioned. Martinez often closes the distance much like younger Duran, by taking a big step in with a power shot and like you say keeping his hands moving. Takes fantastic distance and timing management (as well as quick feet) or you will just eat shots badly.

Actually a different type of fighter, most of the above fight mostly at close range as pressure guys and we’re talking about people closing to mid and close range, but Ricardo Lopez used to do it with a big lunging step too, just he’d do it behind the jab and mostly to maintain his mid-long range distance (Richie Woodhall bingo :yay: ), but he’d go from way outside to landing the jab or lead right very very quickly

Funnily enough I was doing sone drunk shadow boxing the other night and it felt like I was moving and punching pretty well ( ). Better than usual anyway. Probably better than sober too, but there’s a couple of possible interpretations there

That’s where I felt he differed from Frazier who stayed almost at mid range bobbing and weaving, while Dwight used quick feet to dart forwards while slipping and ducking punches.

I used to smoke weed before boxing training, felt it made me faster. I was wrong 🤣 I went into a fight pretty stoned once and lost, never got hit so much in my life. Couldn’t do two things at once felt like when I tried to move and punch at same time it just wasn’t happening and I kept getting caught.

I’ve never felt like am fast after a booze but I do feel like I can hit hard because you literally smash your punch through whatever you aim for, with all your weight like a haymaker and fall over if it misses. I’d never throw a punch like that sober

Drunk me just has a lot of enthusiasm and occasionally the relaxedness helps.

I say drunk, like maybe a bottle and a half of wine. Drunk for me.

Chavez was slow of feet, but by the third round he was there on top of you, and once he got there, he stayed there.

Wilfredo Gomez was also fast at closing the distance.

Hatton was good at it in his prime.
