Its a lot easier to stand up for yourself when you have nothing to lose or hold a lot of cards.

BJS and Fury threatening to walk away from their fights is worth it for them because putting a big show in jeopardy means that the promoters need them more than the other way round.

Small hall ticket sellers could do the maths and think its just not worth it.

Most fighters are in the middle and know it would be unwise to bite the hand that feeds them even if the quality of food is poor.

Audley...started early doors in the Am's.

The example i gave felt he was being thrown to the wolves after six fights, and he could fight, and didn't need the cash. Finished 6-0 (5ko). Told me nobody was taking the piss out of him. Successful am coach now. Produced ABA winners and Olympians.

True. But his campaigning had such an impact it could easily be argued that all of team GB benefited not just boxing

Steve H : spot on mate. Audleys legacy goes beyond his own boxrec profile. (Khan also deserves some credit - when he was a junior running around Europe fighting in tournaments )

All true, but would Audley have done what he did without the National Lottery? I'd argue definitely not. I don't like the Lottery but it's been the catalyst for all that success.

If I remember correctly Willy Reilly retired as British lightweight champion and sent the belt back rather than taking a title defence after a crappy purse bid.
