youre a fighter: which start to the fight would you rather have?

round 1

you score a flash knockdown, guy isn't hurt at all and was mostly off balance, bell rings to end the round and he grins it off but still all judges go 10-8 for you

or

you clearly hurt your opponent, but he stays up and bell rings to end the round. it's not clear how much he'll have recovered for round 2. he may still be in trouble, or he may have cleared his head/gut

It depends what sort of fighter I was. If I had anything like decent power I'd go for the latter as I'd like to think I could do it again, rather than accept a flukey knockdown.

Then again, I'm no fighter and I'm finding it difficult trying to think like one, I'm going for a nap :D

I’d take the flash knowing that your opponent has to attack back at you to get back in the fight. Don’t rush in aka Joshua v Ruiz 1

Dunno. Both heavyweight fights this weekend had a first round knockdown and both fighters who got knocked down rallied afterwards. Calzaghe got knocked down in the first round of his fights against Hopkins and Jones Jnr, yet rallied to win. Didn't Marquez go down 3 times in the first against Pacquiao?

I think an early KD might give you too much confidence, like you know you're already 2 points up. But if you clearly hurt the dude in the 1st, then you might figure you can chop him down if you keep boxing the same way. The early KD might make you overconfident.

I'd rather know that I can hurt the dude, and that he might be tough but he's human and I can keep on hurting him. Early KD's don't necessarily win fights, but knowing that you're hurting a guy is "water in the basement."

A flash is just that.

Hurting your opponent more likely to happen again and puts that thought in the back of his head.

that's a good point. that 1 extra point can be crucial though!

Yeah, but it's the first round. I might take the flash KD mid to later rounds in a close fight though.
