“They’re Terrified to Fight Me” – Luis Ortiz Issues a Stern Warning to Top Heavyweights

Luis Ortiz ranks among the most prominent heavyweights of all time.

Over the past few years, he’s remained in the news for fighting the bigwigs of his division and ending up on the winning vertical against them. However, the hard-hitting heavyweight, who isn’t quite satisfied with his run until now, is hungry for more.

Despite him being ecstatic to take anyone on, he certainly feels the other heavyweight contenders aren’t equipped to fight him. In a chat with Mike Coppinger from The Athletic, he said, “They’re terrified to fight me.”

The last time Ortiz stepped inside the ring was against Alexander Flores in November 2020. That night, ‘King Kong’ won the fight with a sublime KO and made an exemplary statement. Until now, he has fought several top-notch opponents, but his battle with Deontay Wilder tops the fan charts.

The pair locked horns with each other in 2018 for the Alabama native’s WBC heavyweight title. As expected, this bout turned out to be a sheer blockbuster as both Wilder and Ortiz landed dynamite-like hands on each other. To everyone’s surprise, Ortiz fared exuberantly well in this encounter and gave Wilder a stern test.

At one point, it seemed ‘King Kong’ figured ‘The Bronze Bomber’ out and he was all set to finish him. Yet Wilder kept composure and finished Luis Ortiz.

A year later, Wilder and Ortiz fought each other in a rematch. But this time, it was the former who secured a clear and concise win.

The southpaw holds an extensive track record of 32-2. Moreover, he is an explosive prospect who has every ability to confront and beat the toughest of contenders.

That said, in order to revive his boxing career, Ortiz will need a couple or more fights to get back to his best version. Right now, contenders like Andy Ruiz Jr., and Deontay Wilder, are a perfect fit for the veteran, as they themselves are looking for sturdy opponents.

In fact, Ortiz is open to fighting Ruiz Jr. In the above interview, he said, “I think that he wants the fight. I’m here for fighting. I like this fight with Andy Ruiz. I’m ready.”

Thoughts?

A 50 year old with zero good wins.... what a terror. Ortiz needed to take some patches early in his career to get a few trademark victory’s or a title...

He acts like an elite contender, but isn’t, he should fight bakole,

I'm sorry what? did they poll Ortiz and Wilder to decide that statement?

Nobody wants to fight Ortiz because nobody cares about him. I don't really get his career. He claims people avoid him but people have offered him fights and called him out only for him to reject these fights. He calls people out and then does nothing about it. He and his management are awful at boxing promotion. All he does is complain and beat journeymen. He doesn't need to go to the media and complain about all these things when PBC have a few heavyweights that he could face without any problems in organising the fights and most of them are better than his 6 year old token win over an overrate Bryant Jennings.

Wow, that open salvo is quite something. Must be among the least accurate opening paragraphs I've ever read masquerading as boxing news.

For a time Ortiz really looked the business. Dispatched of Bryant Jennings in a fearsome manner , but then kind of stagnated with moribund performances against the likes of Dave Allen before being flattened by wilder.

Some better management could have seen him make the most of what he had rather than peter out somewhat .

Didn't he turn down the AJ fight before Ruiz stepped in?

Never thought he was anything special and this article must be written by his dad.

Luis Ortiz: I FIGHT AJ , ANY TIME, ANY PLACE, ANY MONEY!!!

AJ: Okay, here's 7 million, let's fight

Luis: uhhh, ummm, well, uhhh, IS A LOWBALL , THEY ALL SCARED OF KING KONG!

Even his trainer and manager came out openly and said it was stupid not to take the fight, how often does that happen lol

“They’re terrified” that he will suffer cardiac arrest in the ring and they will be forced to do CPR on international telecasts.

Oh do me a favour. You are all mouth Ortiz. You've done sweet f*ck-all as an amateur or a pro.

Despite all your bullshit about being ducked, you turned down offers to fight Dillian Whyte on three separate occasions. Ok I don't know that for a fact, that's hearsay, but I do know that Hearn offered you 7 or 8 million dollars (or was it £?) to fight Joshua on 30th June 2019.

Instead of taking nearly twenty times your highest ever purse to date, you called Hearn's offer a low-ball and refused it. It was only when Hearn threatened to go public with the exchange of correspondence, that you back-tracked frantically claiming your team hadn't passed on the offer to you. Pure bullshit.

Even then you made no attempt to have Eddie reinstate the offer even though it wasn't too late. Instead you left it to Hunter or Ruiz to take your opportunity.

I once believed in you Luis but you're a fraud and the sooner you f*ck off into retirement the better, and you can take all those other risk averse can-crushers with you.

He was signed with Matchroom around the Jennings win, then got dropped off the books for poor performance. And quite rightly.
Then they haul is ancient arse out to fight Wilder as some manufacturered "Boogieman"
So he does well against Wilder for a few rounds, like most guys with a pulse..

Now you're just being ridiculous. There's no need for fatuous and facetious remarks like that. He's 127 and not a day older.
