Just read that Cam Raeside has passed away in his hometown of Ilkeston. Cam was a swashbuckling pro who boasted a draw with Junior Witter. It is all very sad.

Fought an unbeaten Joshua Clottey and got stopped by a sickening punch in the throat. There was a photo of the punch in a copy of boxing news. It was horrific.

Danny Lopez also got hit with a punch to the throat in the first defence of his world featherweight title back in the 1970s against a Mexican. Lopez came through to win in eight rounds but was left with a permanent croak in his voice. Sadly, Danny is battling dementia today.

Azumah Nelson famously punched Genaro Hernandez in the throat and dropped him, he was given five minutes and continued and won the bout on points. I'm reasonably sure he had a point docked although that could have been because it landed after the bell.

Norton belted away until referee John LoBianco called it off. It lasted 58 seconds.

Bobick never recovered from the defeat but the big fella couldn't really fight, although he did beat a young Larry Holmes in the unpaid ranks. Amazingly, Graham Houston tipped Bobick to beat Norton in Boxing News. Norton had been robbed against Ali in his previous fight.

Didn't Bobick beat Teofilo Stevenson as well as an amateur - I don't know this but was he a better amateur than a pro?

Regarding punches to the throat. Tom Collins stayed on his stool complaining of this in his world title
tilt at Jeff Harding.

I remember in the first a shot catching him in that area, but he didn't seem affected by it at the time.
Never noticed owt in the 2nd round prior to the ending though. Controversial stuff.

Will watch this again tonight...a barn-burner.

Yes, Bobick beat Stevenson in the 1971 Pan-American Games but the giant Cuban took brutal revenge in the Olympics a year later. Bobick was a fine amateur and a genuinely big man but for some reason he always laboured as a pro, even with the likes of Joe Frazier and Eddie Futch in his camp.

Tom was a horribly moody fighter. At his best he was immensely brave and lethal with the right hand but then came the lazy, disinterested nights. He went down and stayed down in a matter of seconds against Andy Straughn on a Fight Night promotion back in the 1980s and was stopped by Carl Canwell in five rounds in another no-show back in the day. (I can still remember the Boxing News headline for that one: "No fizz in Tom.") Nevertheless, Collins kept on rolling along and his crushing knockout of Alex Blanchard for the European light-heavyweight title in 1987 remains a magnificent victory.

Collins was scheduled to fight Prince Charles Williams in Dublin for the IBF light heavyweight title - it was on the schedule and then the card just disappeared into thin air, I remember ringing Boxing News to find out and nobody picked up the phone! I was an utter anorak in those days!

That's right. I had forgotten that they didn't show what amounts to Tom's greatest victory, much like Sibbo's greatest victory over Minter was blacked out. Bonkers.

So sorry to hear that Cam passed away. I remember him well. Always gave a good account of himself. R.I.P champ
