I've lost count of the amount of small hall bill toppers and undercard classics that the eight rounder has delivered in British boxing.

When there are two well matched boxers over this distance and the hunger is still there the fans have been treated to truly wonderful fights.

Logan-Eubank a few weeks before the above

Coincidentally the worst eight-rounder you’ll ever see was Eubank-Moro -the fight after Till-Swift that day!

A classic eight-rounder at Walworth's Manor Place Baths in the 1970s featured Dave Proud against Peter Neal. Proud nicked it by a round but tensions were still high after such a war and rival trainers Ricky Porter and Dennie Mancini squared up.

Al Malcolm vs Dave Garside was a cracker - up on You Tube as a ITV Fight Night special...

Sugar Giliburu vs Andy Holligan (might have been a six rounder though...)

While not 8 rounders but some of the small hall area title fights have been thrilling

Mickey Durvan stopping Kevin Plant in the 8th and final round at Crystal Palace leisure centre.

A real bruiser of a fight with Durvan pounding Plant to defeat. Plant gave everything he had that night and it was quite stomach churning watching Kevin go limp and fall apart so close to reaching the final bell.

Durvan wouldn't be denied and really earned his purse

Good fighter Durvan, one of those forgotten fighters, I just looked at his record again, done well against some proper names and beat a couple too

Eubank had some wonderful leisure centre and small hall fights - Denys Cronin in Cardiff, the partisan crowd; it was very entertaining stuff and Trevor East happened to be in the audience and signed Eubank to ITV. And Hugo Corti for a title - see Eubank on his knees at the end with a huge grin on his face all over the moon that he has a green belt; this is pre-mass press Eubank when he wanted glory in the sport. The press-harassed Eubank a year later wasn’t a happy man and it changed his outlook for five years until he had some time away.

The Logan win on points over 8 rounds launched Eubank snr as a serious British title contender. Chris was very pleased with his hard fought win in what was a step up fight.

Yep, another good 8 rounder with Eubank snr turning on the style against Cronin and forcing a stoppage with some sharp punching. He was complimentary about Cronin afterwards remarking that he was one of the strongest men he had faced.

I believe he even took Cronin on as a sparring partner after, to tee off on and sharpen up his counters and combos nicely for fights.

It made him razor against Kid Milo.

Who remembers George 'boy' Collins' mini-war with Croydon tough nut Chris Blake ?

Collins entered their 8 round contest with a 33-0 record, but Blake pushed him all the way.

That was on Midweek Sport Special on a Wednesday night - allegedly’s Second Out Series.

Didn’t see this Eubank again until the Calzaghe and Thompson fights. He got a massive standing ovation at Royal Albert Hall after the Logan fight too.

I don’t know if he or Barry Hearn chose the panto villain or if he just gravitated towards it. The press were really on his back though, and most of the industry itself, so he probably just naturally rebelled

Corti was an extremely good amateur but hadn’t beat anyone as a pro really, besides a shot Hugo Corro and Matteoni.

Scheduled for a few more than 8 rounds.

Chris Blake (again) v Ian John-Lewis

A very busy encounter between two well matched boxers.

Both of these two crowd pleasers took part in their share of battles.

I remember Chris Blake from the ABAs. He reached the ABA semi-finals at welterweight in 1983 and was outscored by southpaw Scot Tommy Campbell in a bit of an upset. Campbell was then beaten in the final by Manchester's Bob McKenley but put up a good fight. Chris was back a year later and was beaten by Mickey Hughes in the London ABAs but had Hughes gone at one point. Hughes went all the way to the ABA title and to the Olympics so it was a decent losing effort from Blake.

You don't happen to know who Blake boxed for as an amateur do you bennie ?

And a bonus point if you know who John-Lewis boxed for too ?
