"Top Rank not interested in making Crawford-Porter"
Top Rank's Bruce Trampler responding to Kenny Porter's statement that Top Rank was not interested in making a fight between Kenny's son Shawn Porter and WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford:
"Kenny Porter is a good man and gave an accurate account of matters, but reality is that fight is too costly for what fighters want to be paid without fans. Everyone wants it but doesn’t belong In Florida or Texas. It’s a Vegas or New York match. Big fights have to go on PPV, but TV isn’t near enough. Must also have ticket sales and other revenue streams to pay for show. Remember, fighters want huge guarantees with no risk. We’ve paid big guarantees for decades but not in these times."
Thoughts?

If Top Rank aren't interested in matching Terence Crawford against someone like Shawn Porter, then we'll have to assume that Bud will continue facing opposition that is vastly inferior than Errol Spence Jr's, as well as a good portion of his top-ten world-rated 147lbs peers.

It’s starting to look like Crawford will never face a decent 147. I’m guessing a nothing fight, then Will probably fight josh Taylor at 147 (if he wins), then move to 154( unless Spence moves up, then he will clean up spences belts against weak opponents) Madness, craw hasn’t had a big fight in 5 or 6 years. Top tallent, but over values himself to the point where he will never get a good fight.

The best we can hope for at the moment (and politically doable) is that Crawford performs a mandatory defence against GBP's Vergil Ortiz Jr.
In my mind though, it's a bit too soon for a young inexperienced fringe contender, like Ortiz Jr., to face Crawford at this point of his career.
And no one
SHOULD award a top-three pound-for-pounder (and dead-cert first-ballot future Hall-of-Famer) Terence Crawford any kudos for facing another badly-overmatched opponent.
Terence Crawford is approaching his mid-thirties, but hasn't achieved anything noteworthy since his twenties. And the only thing he's been doing for several years is constantly dining on his accomplishments at 140lbs and below, but in my mind that's ancient history!

It became apparent awhile back that TCraw does not value an over abundance of $$$ as a top priority, nor his legacy.

I think it's October. But I don't see greener grass out there for him.

I don't either. If anything his starpower has diminished instead of risen. For most sports fans if you said "That guy Terence Crawford" they'd be like "Who's he a Basketball Player?"
Or something like that.
He's done himself no favors, and it's probably too late in the game for him to ever really make a splash with the mainstream. Especially since he apparently has no desire to do so.

I don't agree with that. I have no doubt he wants the best.

Clearly he doesn't. After about 7 years since he last seriously tested himself it couldn't be any more clear.

I realize you're a fan, but I don't know why you'd pretend this isn't the obvious truth. I used to like him too.

Not sure why you would pretend to know.

I mean. How much more obvious does it need to be?
7 years is a long goddamn time for a so called P4P Elite not to risk defeat against a truly dangerous opponent.
He'll obviously never admit it, but hell he don't have to anymore. He's shown us who he is. A talented fighter who's willing to settle for good money at low risk. Nothing wrong with that, but he's not P4P #1 or even Top 5 at this point. He's not worthy of it.

He proved it too. When he stepped up he lost. That's why he took so long to step up. He or his people knew he couldn't hack it. I always figured Crawford could, but maybe he or his people don't.
Who knows?
You don't throw away 7 years of your prime as an Athlete though. You'll never get that time back. The tear he'd have to go on to make up for that 7 years wasted would have to be truly phenomenal. I still wouldn't say he's incapable of it, but he doesn't seem willing.

Oh, a fight by fight basis will be fine. Just imagine an old overnight Crawford who has pissed away his prime

Fact remains, wilder actually wanted the challenge, bud does too.

Not that I'm pretending his last few years are stellar, but they're not that bad. One thing I am is a great bullshit detector. Not impervious, but when I talked to wilder and bud my alarm didn't go off. Either way it's a shame.
