i noticed our home girl amy posted the post below, in the mostly inactive am section, about a survey related to am boxers and the pandemic
tbh, i havent followed the domestic am scene for a while, only international and only then half arsed for the last several years

CALLING BOXERS!! I need as many participants as possible for this research
I am an undergraduate Sport Science student at Teesside University, and I am conducting a study into the effect that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the mental wellbeing of experienced senior amateur male boxers.
Please help me by completing the online survey provided.
The study has been approved by Teesside University's Ethics Committee and all contributions will be anonymous and confidential.
I'd be incredibly grateful for the participation in my online survey for my dissertation research project.
This research is concerning senior amateur male boxers only.
TO BE ELIGIBLE you must be aged 18 years or over, a senior male amateur boxer, and a member of an ABA gym in England.
I need as many people that fall into this category as possible, so feel free to share my survey!
If you wish to contribute or read more, please click the link provided, where you will find further information about the study to help you decide whether you would like to take part in the survey, or not.

In Scotland, it seems unhealthy. I’m good pals with Alex Arthur and follow his son Machlan. They are pretty despondent at the state of the Am game after it’s been ravaged by covid.
Maybe my limited knowledge is off track but I’ve not heard anything positive for ages.

It really upsets Maggie if you know any license holder. Even if you knew them before boxing!

Back on topic, I've heard the girl I always go on about, European champion 10tko in 13 has packed in. The year off has shown her 15 year old girls do other things than train. Hope it's not true. It's been really bad. At least the elite lot are out this week and a few box cups confirmed.

I mean he could try going to a boxing club, seems to me to be the best way to be involved in boxing

Alex runs a club on Rose St in edin city centre, he has boys and girls there so Maggie would be welcomed.

Might have to change her name though, can’t imagine ‘Margaret Thatcher’ would be too popular in Scotland

Some of the older folk are wishing she was still alive now after a year of Bawjaws

Incredible you should say that as most boxing people I know, I have met in gyms!

He’s just a straight up normal guy. One of ma best pals was his teammate in the Scottish team. He runs about with guys I know and socialise with. Seriously man just jump into a gym and get going and you’ll meet loads of boxers, like Mickey says

ive been in both 'legit' gyms and then some of the more boxercisey/fitness ones, granted i only did the hardcore gyms for a couple years so not the longest time frame to work with
there were lions in the camp, but no former world champs

I trained at a bog standard amateur club that doesn't exist anymore back in the early to mid 90's (actually one in Merseyside and another one in Shropshire...) and I knew a few ABA champions, world ranked pros, famous trainers and ex-pros (and dozens and dozens of both junior and senior amateur boxers) who I am still in touch with and friends with today.
Not that hard to meet these people if you train/box/go to shows for a few years...

I just felt the response you made took the thread off course. Anyway, I think a lot of the ams will have lost valuable time and only the very dedicated, with private access to gyms will have kept at same level or improved.
Machlan Arthur is a young guy to watch, some puncher.

Or some guys who may train discreetly....

Yea mate, that’s what I meant. I’ve been told sparring is the hardest part to keep going during the restrictions.

Someone, I can't remember who, accused me of name dropping when I mentioned a novice pro who I know. When I mention Wharton, who I've known since I was in nursery with his brother and he hadn't even boxed, i get slaughtered!

I know 'elite' athletes can train. I know ams who've sparred elite guys and not been quiet about it, posting on fb, etc. And the pros are very well known. It must be allowed.
