For me this is a good move to fight at a bigger weight class given his size and frame and may just invigorate his career .

I haven’t heard anything about him/from him since the Canelo fight. 175 would be a great move for him - lots of good fights there.

Bivol, Beterbiev, Ramirez, potentially big domestic fights against Buatsi/Yarde and co. depending on how their careers go.

His survival mode job vs Canelo was terrible viewing. It didn't look like he was even trying to win.

I'm not sure how that will affect him going forward. I predicted he would give Alvarez a lot of bother, maybe he even disappointed himself.

He doesnt really seem to have developed since beating groves and I think a total re think was needed a few fights back which never happened and I agree against Canelo there was a survival mode in the 2nd half of the fight , when he realised the shots didnt hurt the guy and he didnt want to be stopped either .

It'll be interesting to watch him at both SMW and LHW right now. The Saunders, Benavidez matchups sound fine. Title shots at LHW too. Anyway, he'll fight some bums next...

He beat a gatekeeper, a kick boxer and an injured and shot George Groves on the way to winning the Ali trophy then got a generous decision against Ryder. Nothing, ever, suggested he could compete with Canelo.

I have no idea what C. Smith is thinking. Losing to Canelo is nothing to be ashamed of, although a ton of UK boxing fans seem to want to make it out to be.

Given the circumstances, I surmise that he has been giving serious consideration to moving on from boxing; maybe become a computer contractor, a constable, or an educator.

Mr. Smith is plenty young enough to change course. I would applaud his decision if he chose to do so.

Callum Smith will return to the ring at a new weight class.

The former WBA Super, WBC Diamond and Ring Magazine super middleweight champion is set to lace up the gloves again in the second half of the calendar year.

Smith, in his last outing, went the distance with pound-for-pound superstar Saul Alvarez, losing a unanimous decision and in the process succumbing his global honors in what was also a challenge for the vacant WBC crown.

But the Liverpudlian (27-1, 19 KOs) looks like he will move up to light-heavyweight when he steps back through the ropes.

‘Mundo’ will have his comeback screened exclusively on DAZN worldwide after his promoter, Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, revealed that the company’s deal with Sky Sports, a long-time partner, would cease with immediate effect.

“After more than 25 years of boxing with Sky Sports, we have made the monumental decision to sign a new, historic, landmark five-year boxing deal with sports streaming giant DAZN in the UK,” Hearn stated earlier this month.

As part of the previous agreement, Hearn’s UK shows were being streamed on DAZN in territories excluding the UK and Ireland.

Shortly after the announcement, Smith posted an image to his social media profile with the caption ‘175’, suggesting the move up to the light-heavyweight limit was forthcoming.

His management company, STN Sports, has stated that fight news for Smith is coming soon and further details will be revealed in due course.

Smith laying low makes sense made crazy cash but he took a horror beating, probably should of had 6 months of any contact to the head. Also seemed to have an arm injury.

175 is a good weight for him I think, can he be a top dog there I’m not sure. But there is 5 good domestic fights there to use as bounce backs if he fails at world champ levle,

He had an absolute gift of a run in that.

Bivol looked very average last fight, and he is pretty small. Will Smith get a crack at him befor canelo? I would guess that canelo would be eyeing him as a target after he beats plant (if the fights ever made)...

I think Bivol would box rings around Callum at a canter.

bivol fights to the level of his opposition a lot, i think hed beat callum. a mover like bivol would exploit cal's slow footwork

dont forget he barely lost a round combined against pascal, smith, barrera.....he can box much better than he did against spider man

Yeh, Bivol was previously taking about moving down and fighting Cal Smith at 168 a couple years ago.

He said he wouldent but i think he might in the right situation. Bivol is a small 175, canelo probably outweighs him... could have it at 168 too probably. Depends if canelo would rather gain a belt or risk his own, which itself probably depends on how much DAZN say each option is worth.
so theres plant, benavidez, and bivol as good options for next 3 fights i think... I dont think canelo is going back to 160, he is thickkkkboy now, so do i wanna see him vs 160s, not really. If those guys come up get a good 168 win then sure.

personally what i want is canelo to subsidise a fight with babic vs Trevor bryan and pay DDD some step aside (pennys for canelo) and if babic wins, canelo fight him for "the heavyweight title of the world"... but you know thats where i enter dream land a bit.

Hopefully he fights the top fighters soon. Bivol, Beter, Joe Smith, Vlasov, Kovalev - all those matchups can become interesting and competetive.
