Peak Royce Gracie versus Brock Lesnar

Who would win-UFC rules.
I watched a fantastic vid on Youtube talking about how very high-level wrestlers have developed the ability to understand leverage and excellent balance, which can make it difficult for BJJ operators to submit them...gilgamesh wrote: ↑05 Jun 2021, 21:12Brock
But this is a tricky question because at the time of Gracie's early success he was so successful because nobody knew much about Jiu Jitsu and didn't know how to deal with it. It is pretty much a direct response to Gracie's early success that Jiu Jitsu and the knowledge of it became so mainstream and so many more fighters are able to successfully defend against it now.
But yes the fighters that we knew in the UFC. Brock would win because he knows what Jiu Jitsu is, and wouldn't get caught in nothing.
I agree. Even the guys his own size. Let alone the guys who outweigh him by 100 pounds.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑06 Jun 2021, 01:16 royce's success was more of a bjj thing than a royce gracie thing . for me he fares pretty badly in mythical fights vs the more modern day mma guys
Why sadly? Whilst you could argue Gracie revolutionised MMA (as it existed) by introducing BJJ, he ruined the excitement of a lot of the early UFCs by humping fighters to death in boring fights when most of the fighters he humped would've been in exciting crazy bar fights that was the early UFC.

I have to be honest I really enjoyed Matt Hughes battering him. Also the huge Brock Lesnar with wrestling experience and understanding of BJJ would've absolutely eaten Royce alive.

Sadly because I like Royce and don’t like Brock mate. The beating would be disgusting.
I didn’t like Matt hammering him either mate but I can see why you did. I was a Royce fan from seeing the first UFCs but he did get very arrogant as MMA took off. Prime Royce vs Matt would have been much the same I think. He was very tough and went in against much larger guys often.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 07:13Lol fair enoughWee Tommy wrote: ↑06 Jun 2021, 17:52JamesPhilips wrote: ↑06 Jun 2021, 17:21

He was hard as nails that’s for sure. Sakuraba messed him up badly though.gilgamesh wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 13:09 Royce was one half of the longest MMA fight I've ever seen. No Time limits. It went until there was a winner, and his fight with Sakuraba in Pride FC went like an hour and 45 minutes.
Royce's corner finally threw the towel in.
Wasn't an exciting fight exactly, but it's historically significant. Because you hear about these Marathon Boxing matches from like the turn of the 20th Century, but this sh*t happened in the year 2000.
My main issues is that he was boring and was a turnoff in the early UFC. Imagine how much more exciting at that time it would've been if they'd replaced him with some other random brawler. The other thing is Gracie was really involved in the early UFC, and deliberately chose guys who knew nothing about grappling. Ken Shamrock in UFC 1 was the only one who had any understanding of groundwork. But even he never had much success against Gracie.Wee Tommy wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 12:48I didn’t like Matt hammering him either mate but I can see why you did. He beat Remco Pardoel who was a judo guy and hidehiko Yoshida, also Dan Severn who was a wrestler. . I get what your saying but for me I found his fights very exciting and interesting at the time as I was purely a boxing/thai fan then. BJJ was very new to me.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑07 Jun 2021, 17:03My main issues is that he was boring and was a turnoff in the early UFC.
