Carl Frampton as a commentator

What do people think about Carl as a commentator /analyser? I never really warmed to him as a fighter, not even sure why... but watching him last night on BT Sport I liked the stuff he was saying. He knows his stuff and also doesn't seem afraid to put across his real thoughts instead of the usual dreadful company line like Sky bellends.

Have we got a new Barry Jones? (Like most I love Barry's analysis but last time out he was hired by Sky and cringeingly spent round after round telling us how impressive Solomon Dacres was in his pro debut....)

I always said he was intelligent, perceptive, and he’s decent on the mic too. He’s a natural for the co commentator slot.

x2, would be great additions to their coverage. Knowledgeable but also willing to speak their mind and be brutally honest when required.

You talk like being brutally honest is an option for all!

I don't mind Frampton at all.
I've warmed to Chris Algieri lately too.
Both have the knowledge, both have voices that don't grind on me, which I find important because I like the sound up to hear the ring action- commentary has always been secondary to that.

Jones and Frampton won't be on Dazn. Boomer almost certainly will. He actually talks of Matchroom as 'we', he's done it a few times.

I think Barry will be retained by Sky Sports and Frampton will probably be happy continuing doing his thing with BT.

Matchroom are pretty loyal so will no doubt keep Froch, Bellew (albeit potentially to a lesser extent given how biased he is), Paul Smith and one or two other ex Matchroom fighters.

I think Eddie and Frampton are cool now and the reason he left Matchroom was almost certainly down to Barry McGuigan wanting more control but Eddie will still be more likely to pick a Froch, Bellew, Barker over him.

Smith has said in the past he didn't like not speaking his mind. Barker is a given. And Chris Lloyd.

I quite like Barker and Lloyd’s bits they do for Matchroom YouTube. Lloyd could end up being a very good presenter.

Frampton has the makings of an excellent commentator - been there done that, articulate and critically (IMO) looks the part also. One reason why I think the likes of Hamed and Hatton will never get regular punditry gigs - despite them both being true ATG British fighters. Networks have tried with them, but they never last.

Neither need the attention or money. Naz is a liability and Ricky is either working or watching at home with a few pints

Got to look the part also - with the greatest of respect, you don't see it in any sport an overweight or bashed up pundit. Look at the pundits in the Rugby they all look like they could fit into their old Rugby shirts.

If memory serves - Hatton was going to be a regular pundit on Sky upon his original retirement.

Most of Sky's pundits do not look like boxers really, all look very trim with pretty good noses.

Spencer bought his hair, Froch his nose, Macklin has a broken nose.

Good points. Wheeling out fat ugly punch drunk boxers doesn’t fit the polished and cringe sky ‘brand’.
Also one thing about Hatton - a few weeks after Hatton was used as a ‘best man’ for Adam Smith, Smith terminated his contract with Sky. Makes you think Smith has no actual real friends to be a true best man….. Hatton was probably chuffed at the time to try his shite ‘comedy’ routine…. ‘If you found Mike Tyson in bed with your wife you’d tuck him in’. Then Hatton got bin bagged a few weeks later.

Hatton is still paid thousands of pounds a night for that very same routine.

Was it a Eubank Jr fight where Naz was a pundit and he absolutely murdered him, didn’t pull any punches at all. It was refreshing to see such honest punditry.

I have found Hamed fun and quality when they’ve used him. Honesty doesn’t get you far in Boxing though and Hamed doesn’t need the money.
