Couple of years go,or possibly sooner.boxing news done e feature on the top 10 pound for pound of all time boxers.Does anyone know what that list was ? Look forward to hearing from you.Thanks.

I have come across the following list (think Jones will probably fall out of that now!)
1. Joe ‘The Brown Bomber’ Louis
2. Sugar Ray Robinson
3. Henry Armstrong
4. Gene ‘The Fighting Marine’ Tunney
5. Muhammad ‘The Greatest’ Ali
6. Ricardo ‘Finito’ Lopez (Tied with) Willie ‘The Wisp’ Pep
7. Jack ‘The Galveston Giant’ Johnson
8. Roy Jones Jr. tied with Harry Greb
9. Rocky ‘The Brockton Blockbuster’ Marciano
10. Sugar Ray Leonard (tied with) Marvin ‘Marvelous’ Hagler
11. Roberto ‘Manos De Piedras’ Duran (Tied with) Pernell ‘Sweet Pea’ Whitaker

Boxing Monthly did a readers vote in 1999 for the Greatest British and World boxing of all time at the weight (i.e. greatest heavyweights, lightheavyweights etc etc).
I will see if I can drag it out.

I remember reading a Top 50 all time pound for pound list. I have tried all sorts of searches to find it but to no avail. I think it started off with 1. Robinson 2. Louis 3. Duran. Lewis I think was in the late 20's and Tyson in the 30's.

not at all, Henry Armstrong has just as strong a case as Robinson, you could also argue for Willie Pepp.
Roy Jones is maybe top 10, but no way should he be above Leonard. That's a very bizzare list, Rocky Marciano? What the fornicate.

Rocky Marciano seems to always make the list, especially when the Americans write it, a pigmentation thing probably.

part of the reason I think Robinson often gets the nod is he was so famous, and he came around just as the media was starting to really get into swing. memorable fights too. I'm not saying he isn't neccesarily, but there are guys with a strong case too.
what Henry Armstrong achieved is incredible, winning the welterweight title whilst weighing no more than the light welterweight limit, and sometimes under 135. Amazing.
He looks like he really struggled to make featherweight, and was a natural lightweight according to his weights. He defended his title 20 times in 2 years, beating Ross and Ambers, Ceferino garcia, and the losing to hall of famer fritzie zivic.

No qualms about Robinson and Armstrong. The rest is a bit weird.
Top 3 imo.

3. Duran

No disrespect to the late Marciano but there is no way he would be in my top ten P4P all time list.
Top 25 maybe, but not top 10.
I would in a P4P list list Marciano below Jimmy Wilde, Archie Moore and Ezzard Charles amongst others.

This list is surely a joke. Tunney-Marciano-LaMotta-Whitaker no way are they top ten P4P ever.

Whittaker deserves consideration, in terms of pure boxing skills, I've never seen anyone better.

Yeh i suppose i was being a bit harsh on Whittaker but i do think there are ten better P4P than him, I would put him in the same group as RJJ and would have to really think about how to leave out to put them in.
