Mayweather-Paul Generated up to 1 million Buys

How many PPV buys did fight do?
The two locked horns on Sunday night at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, and the PPV sales numbers have now been revealed.
The demand for the fight billed as "Bragging Rights" was so high that it saw servers crash with many facing PPV outages.
However, despite this, it did fairly well on PPV, generating around 600,000-650,000 buys in the US alone, according to noted American journalist Dave Meltzer.
Around $32m revenue
The fight taking place on a Sunday, and the fact that no major sporting events were being held at the same time, was a major financial boost.

Must be some very angry people about that server crashing or whatever the technical problem was. 32 million in revenue is a massive fail for this event.

People were predicting over 2m..
Some where predicting May-Pac and May-Mac numbers.
Had this been more than $49, it would have done even less buys.

I read something along the lines of that this was Mayweather's fourth worst PPV ever and other than Berto it was his worst for about 15 years.
I think that shows that the boxing fans were not that interested and neither were the YouTube fans. It's still a large number of PPV buys compared to most but considering what Mayweather has done previously and what some of the other YouTubers have done, it's not what they thought it would be.

I think it shows the importance of it being a real pro bout. If this was a pro fight with mayweather a record on the line it would of done wayyyyy bigger numbers.
Interesting to know how many actualy watched it, the streaming site I use had 3 or 4 seperate streams for this because demand was so high, and iv never ever seen that, they run one stream when canelo or AJ fight...

Millions would have watched it. Just didn't pay for it.

There seems to be an awful lot of streaming services covering the event.
The Showtime app (not the PPV), Sling, FANMIO, Sky Sports etc.
I guess when you've got a social media star with a massive global following, then viewership figures may not go down the traditional route.
I suspect a much younger audience viewed the bout via streaming services rather than cable PPV.
To be honest though, I'm not defending the figures currently being reported, because if they're poor, then hopefully Floyd might stick to his word and retire for good.
But if they ultimately end up surpassing expectations, then he'll be sorely tempted to fight again. And that would annoy the hell out of me!

I think it going down on Sunday Night instead of Saturday probably hurt it too. That probably costs them a couple hundred thousand buys at least right there.
People have been conditioned to look for Big Boxing events on Saturday Night.

Nope, that's Americentric.
For the poms its the wee hours Sunday am for USA cards, for time zones in the south from japan down its early sunday morning from around 5am, and for me and the Aussies it's late Sunday morning or early afternoon.

This was in America though. So Americentric is what they should've been going for.

I watched it on YouTube. It didn't cost me a penny yet I'm still wondering why I bothered. At least I can content myself that I haven't contributed in any way to the perpetuation of this kind of exploitative bullsh*t.

Vast majority of those buys would be Logan Paul fans, rather than real boxing fans.

If Floyd wants a payday then the Canelo Alvarez rematch is the only thing out there.

Maybe, but FMJ still has his faithful, especially in the LA to Vegas corridor. Also, the hater and race factors cannot be completely overlooked.

Especially when Boxing fans know that we got Fury vs Wilder 3 and Spence vs Pac coming up. Both certainly being more worthy of your money.
The whole Wilder vs Fury 3 card is shaping up nicely now. Better overall card than their 2nd bout, although the Main Event won't be as big a deal this time around.

Showtime is projecting at least 1 million buys (or slightly more) domestically - which includes cable, satellite, and streaming.

Showtime announced that a replay of the fight will air on their network this coming Saturday night, at 10:05 PM ET/PT, followed by the "INSIDE Mayweather vs. Paul Epilogue." The Mayweather-Paul replay will include the four-round exhibition clash between former NFL superstar Chad Johnson and pro boxer/bare knuckle fighter Brian Maxwell.
A network source at Showtime confirmed to Boxing Scene, that Sunday was the biggest single-day of new subscription signups since the launch of Showtime's streaming service in 2015.

That was figures from PPV purchased via just Showtime. So I read.
The rest is made up of other methods of purchase like through the Showtime app etc.
They had the largest number of one day sign ups on the app.
