doubt it.........cotto vs foreman is another one where ref did it.......foreman just took more of a battering and got stopped
maybe steve grey has some examples

If a corner throws the towel in then fight should be automatically stopped, it shouldn't be up to ref, they dont know what's went on in corner, how the fighters feeling etc

ya, i saw some people say 'but the ref is the closest one to the fighter'......um, bruh, it's the corner whose right up in his face talking with him round after round, has been there all through training, knows him better than anyone there. it was his dad too ffs!

Corner could just get in the ring and disqualify their fighter, although it risks their licence.

Fully agree.
A lot of people use the Katsidis/Earl fight as a way to excuse it because Earl hurt him not long after the towel came in. Earl landed his best punch and couldn’t stop him and took heavy punishment for another 3 rounds.
His punch resistance was gone after that and he was stopped in the 1st in his next 2 fights.
I would have much rather Vann had accepted the corner retirement when the towel came in.

Apparently the "only the ref may stop the fight" rule exists partly to prevent corruption, i.e. a crooked corner member throwing in the towel to win a stoppage bet.

I’d forgotten about the Byrne/Holmes fight but my opinion is the same. The ref should have the stopped the fight if the corner wanted to stop it.
Byrne is as tough as they come but has not defence, had his arse handed to him sparring in the Wild Card for a while and, I really hope I’m wrong, may struggle later in life with the volume of clean, hard shots he took.

Wilfredo Gomez threatened to kill his trainer who wanted to pull him out against Rocky Lockridge, and Gomez came back to win, but I can't think of a scenario you are looking for.

Remember Brook vs Golovkin with Dom Ingle waving the towel like a mad man and the only person who couldn’t see it was the ref?
That oversight probably cost Brook about -5 IQ level and he didn’t have much to start with.
“I won the battle of nutrition”.
Anyone remember that gem?

i remember one poster here, was it tuan jim , who was adament that brook was still right in with a great shot of winning that

Scotland coach Dick McTaggart threw in the towel in sheer frustration at the referee's handling of a bout in an international between England and Scotland back in the day. Unfortunately for Dick, the referee then stopped the bout.
Dunno but i'd like to see that comedy moment.
