Oscar De La Hoya To Box Former UFC Star Vitor Belfort In PPV Exhibition September 11

Oscar De La Hoya’s long-discussed return to the ring is set.

Boxing Scene has confirmed that “The Golden Boy” will box former UFC star Vitor Belfort in a 10-round exhibition September 11. Their Triller Fight Club pay-per-view main event will likely take place at a venue in Las Vegas.

De La Hoya, 48, and Belfort, 44, will wear 12-ounce gloves for their exhibition. Association of Boxing Commissions rules require contestants who compete above the welterweight limit to wear 10-ounce gloves for official fights in the United States.

The Athletic’s Mike Coppinger, a member of Triller Fight Club’s broadcast team, first reported on Twitter that the De La Hoya-Belfort bout has been scheduled for September 11.

De La Hoya, a six-division champion, initially announced he’d headline a Triller Pay-Per-View show July 3, but his return was delayed for two months.

De La Hoya has been retired from boxing since his one-sided, technical-knockout loss to Manny Pacquiao in December 2008. De La Hoya, who was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June 2014, has spoken about boxing again in real fights and more recently in exhibitions for many years.

Brazil’s Belfort is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who has fought such MMA legends as Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Tito Ortiz, Anderson Silva and Jon Jones. He hasn’t competed in MMA since May 2018, when Lyoto Machida knocked him out in the first round at UFC 224 in Rio de Janeiro.

Belfort announced his retirement following his seventh knockout loss three years ago. He went 26-14, including 18 knockout victories and three submission wins, during his 21-year MMA career.

By scheduling his exhibition for September 11, De La Hoya likely will avoid directly competing with the next fight for Canelo Alvarez, the longtime flagship fighter for Golden Boy Promotions.

Mexico’s Alvarez and Golden Boy parted ways late last year. The contentious nature of the relationship between De La Hoya and Alvarez has played out publicly on social media in recent weeks.

Alvarez’s handlers remain in negotiations with Caleb Plant’s representatives for them to fight for their four super middleweight championships September 18, probably at a Las Vegas venue as well. Promoter Eddie Hearn, who has worked with Alvarez for his past three fights, said recently that September 11 also is a potential date for the Alvarez-Plant fight.

The 30-year-old Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs), who has won world titles in four divisions, owns the WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight titles. The 28-year-old Plant (21-0, 12 KOs), of Ashland City, Tennessee, holds the IBF 168-pound crown.

Perfect. Now canelo is extra motivated to hit that date. Plant fight is as good as on, canelo would over play plant just to help ruin this for Oscar.

It's an exhibition. Who gives a sh*t?

Why have a poll about who wins?

What don't you dumbasses get about this Exhibition business by now? Floyd carried Logan Paul to a Draw, Tyson took it easy on Roy to a draw.

It's a draw. It's a meaningless sparring session.

I wouldn't watch it in my backyard.

History keeps repeating itself, which means we know for certain there’ll be no winner or loser. And definitely no stoppage.

It’s only a public sparring session, otherwise known as an exhibition.

I understand people may watch this event, out of sheer curiosity, but they need to realign their expectations accordingly.

This isn’t a “fight”. No one is going to get hurt.

The only “damage” the participants of this exhibition will cause, will be to the bank balances of bored naive mainstream casual fans.

Belfort is younger, less rusty, has decent and heavy hands, he'll probably whoop Oscar.

Oscar should take this one handily unless TRT Vitor turns up. He aged 15 years overnight when he was no longer allowed his TUE in the UFC and that was a few years ago.

However, if Vitor looks jacked in fight week, we can assume he's on something and he could do some damage.

Why do they all yell like that nowadays..?
It's like listening to a caveman battling a Hyena over Venison.

Reminds me of So Many modern rock bands copying Imagine Dragons.

Surely it can’t be long before those buying / watching these exhibitions realise that there is no spite / malice / desire to do anything more than a sparring session and go the distance with each other.

These guys are crazy :OhYes: . It isn't an exhibition though in that it will go on both men's records. Because one thing I couldn't understand about Mayweather vs Paul is, I kind of liked seeing Floyd, it but why pay money for a fight that doesn't mean anything (when you can just catch a replay of it later)?

Haye vs. Fournier, Silva vs. Ortiz Added To De La Hoya-Belfort Card

The upcoming Triller pay-per-view card, scheduled for September 11 at Staples Center in Los Angeles, is receiving several undercard additions.

The main event will feature the return of six division world champion Oscar De La Hoya, who faces former UFC champion Vitor Belfort in a sanctioned boxing match.

De La Hoya will fight for the first time since 2008, when he suffered a stoppage loss at the hands of Manny Pacquiao.

According to the Mirror, former two division champion David Haye will end his three-year retirement to fight former training partner and billionaire nightclub owner Joe Fournier in an eight round bout.

Haye walked away from the sport in 2018, after suffering back to back knockout defeats at the hands of Tony Bellew.

The experienced Haye captured titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight, but his career was plagued by severe injuries after losing to Wladimir Klitschko in 2011.

Fournier fought on a Triller pay-per-view back in April and raised his record to 9-0 with a one-sided stoppage of Colombian singer Reykon.

Also added to the card, according to MMA Fighting, is a boxing match between MMA legends Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz.

Silva, 46-years-old, picked up a big boxing win back in June, when he traveled to Mexico to secure a decision victory over former WBC champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. It was only Silva's third boxing match in his combat sports career - and his first since 2005. Ortiz has little to no boxing experience.

2minute rounds for women’s boxing and men who put kitchen utensils up their arse.

Always wondered which utensil he had up there . Rolling pin? Spatula? Garlic crusher? Whisk?

Interesting.

I personally have never wondered what someone has inserted in their ass.
