Calzaghe rules out Kessler for his next defence yet says he`s still looking for an opponent for a March 18th defence which may be on Eamonn Magee`s card at the Kings hall.
"The Irish fans are very passionate and knowledgeable and I'm sure I would get great support," added Calzaghe.

Yet insults them by choosing not to fight Kessler, doesn’t a passionate and knowledgeable crowd deserve a worthy challenger??

How about the other Magee for Calzaghe, I think it would be acceptable, just.

Thats probably what he`s hoping for, rather see him in with Froch or even Reid out of the British based boxers.

Quite Shockimg.

Calzaghe is going to do himself no favours at all if he turns up at the Kings Hall to outpoint another patsy.

I am officially bored with Calzaghes career.

Like others have said a fight against Brian Magee (who won't take it anyway in my opinion) or a rematch with Robin Reid would be ok, without even looking at overseas opposition.

I don’t think even the Irish supporters would particularly pay to see Calzaghe against Magee fight, talk about a predictable stinker of a fight.

Give Froch a shot, he`s sort of young and whilst not a favourite of mine I think he`d make a more exciting fight than Magee.

Thinking about it, style wise you may well be right.

The only 12st fight for Calzaghe that would really interest me would be against Lacy.

It will never happen though.

Mark my words, Calzaghe will end up fighting Mario Veit.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I shall be having nightmares tonight.

One big problem for Calzaghe in this fight is that in the pre fight hype Joe will not be able to used the well worn "He has never been stopped" line.

Kesslers better than Lacy. Calzaghe would totally outbox Lacy. Did you see the Sheika fight? Lacy looked pretty average. Calzaghe has said he wants to fight Lacy, he knows its a relitively easy fight, Kessler is not.

Purely subjective reasoning I disagree with.

Sheika was stopped by Calzaghe on cuts caused by head butts, Joe was also allowed to hit & hold in that fight.
(No wonder he only fights at home.)

Give Lacey credit for beating Vanderpool who the welshing chicken ducked.
He used the same excuse “Hardly known to the public and not a big crowd-puller” for Kessler as he did for Vanderpool.
Yet, Kessler is as big in his home country as Joe is in his & neither is that big outside of it.

Bennie’s got it right; Calzaghe will end up fighting Aqua Veit. :TU:
Then he sez he got bigger fish to fry  …maybe Laila Ali?

Lol I don't think he would risk fighting Laila Ali, can you iimagin Wank Warren building that one up, well we have two undefeeted champions "Although some say jo is fighting a girl but they all know this is the best fight out their for Jo"

Chris Eubank probably the closet to a contest he has ever been in. Deffinatly the only one I would call a super fight.

Sadly he has never been in a fight with another world champion. That just shows you what Calzage is about any fighter who has held a title for 8 years should have shown the ambition to try to unify with the other fighters. I get sick of reading all these lamentations from him an the press where he claims to be denied his career defining fight well after 8 years of holding a title there is only one person responcible for that.

Again, I'm wondering how many of you saw Sheika in his fights leading up to the Lacy fight. After being blasted out by Pemberton, he changed his style and became less a brawler and more of a boxer. Even with that, Lacy was still able to beat him.

Say what you want about Lacy, but he's a fighting champion; and while I don't know for sure that he could beat Calzaghe, if Joe came over to the U.S. to fight him, I also don't know for sure that Lacy wouldn't be able to knock him out. If Saleem and Mitchell can put him down, Lacy can put him out.

I agree about Lacy being a fighting champion, look how regularly he is defending this crown. He's got another one lined up soon.

I wasn't impressed with Lacy vs Sheika, Sheika may have changed his style but his limitations have been exposed by so many it has to go down as a disapointing display. Eric Lucas made Sheika look a bit silly at times and I think he would be an excellent future opponent for Lacy.

Lacy is still learning and definately a good test for Joe now. However, I would strongly favour Calzaghe at this moment because I didn't like the way Sheika rocked Lacy and Lacy's response to being hurt (he went into a shell). Sheika's a good puncher, but he didn't not hurt Calzaghe or Lucas.

Mmmm, strange, Blue having a little pop at a British fighter.

Much as I hate to speak up in defence of Joe "a legend in his own mind" Calzaghe, he totally battered Sheika. He didn't hit and hold to excess, and there were few clashes of heads (and clashes of heads is what they were, not head-butts). It was a completely legit drubbing.

Also, I'm not sure Calzaghe ducked Vanderpool. What would there be to gain by facing a man who had, at that point, one title challenge (and got battered at a lower weight, admittedly against Hopkins though), and only one other decent name (and even then Johnson was a fighter low on confidence) on his record? Yes, that's right, nothing. Nothing to gain at all.

Now, if you want to accuse Joe of ducking a rematch with Reid, or avoiding fights against Ottke, Beyer, Catley, and even Larson, then you may have a better than decent case. But ducking Vanderpool? Please. Your bias against Calzaghe, in this case, is no better than some of the excuses trundled out by blind Tyson or Wlad "nut-huggers", following their idols latest loss.

To be honest, I didn't think much of the 'lacklustre' performance against Sheika. It came only 2 months after a real live one versus Vanderpool. The 'win' on the record was the only thing that really mattered, IMO.

For what it's worth I think Joe's punch resistance has worsened quite a bit over these last few dull years of his career. When he gets going and boxes he could probably beat Lacy, but unfortunately I think Lacy would likely KO the present version of Calzaghe, as may Kessler. I don't think he has been able to get up for a tough fight for quite some time now, and has went back into 2nd gear to see if he could recharge. But now he's starting to stall in that 2nd gear and his career is nearly stalemated.

He should fight the likes of Mario Shiet for three or so more fights, make some cash, then hang them up. He will be able to milk his 'unbeaten record defences' bollocks to all the casual mongs for a considerable part of his life; Warren delivered.

Eric Lucas is another of my favorites at 168 and I'd like to see him in against Calzaghe.

When you consider Veit's performance against Brewer and Calzaghe's against Saleem; you have to wonder if the rematch between those two would be a bit closer.

Also, as to Calzaghe ducking Vanderpool, Syd had been actively calling out Calzaghe for months trying to get a fight with him, but could not do so. Instead, Calzaghe fought guys like Tocker Pudwill. Humorously, when you talk of Calzaghe ducking people, you can add the fierce Freeman Barr to the list who was Calzaghe's mandatory for about two years.

Lots of fighters call out big names to try and get a payday, just like Vanderpool was doing. Freeman Barr? Oh yeah, that guy who Mger Mkerchian KO'ed, who Joe then dominated then knocked out in about 8 rounds.

I saw Sheika alright. I saw the Butler fight in which he looked totally AWFUL and a shot fighter. Lacy took what was supposed to be an easy 1st defence but it didn't turn out that way and he struggled somewhat. Saleem and Mitchell dropped Joe with monster shots. Lacy wouldn't land. He's a hard puncher no doubt but not an effective one and thats what really matters.

First, Sheika didn't look shot against Butler; nor did he look shot against Ntoh before that. He was quite effective and boxed against sluggers rather than engaging in a brawl.

Second, you're arguing that Lacy isn't as effective at landing shots as Kabary Saleem? Have you seen Saleem before the Calzaghe fight? He's not very good.
