Quite a surprise even though Jnr not a great boxer. Silva is 46!

Yes, I didn't expect Jr to be that sh!t. He looked like a novice, didn't know what to do, except occasional swinging, he was slow and defenceless. He didn't look like a boxer at all. He'll lose to his dad now.

Yep. Exactly what I thought. No way you go from a world title and many title bouts to fighting like that. Makès sense. Probably an easy fight to fix

Why it should be a fix? Jr was a champ and so what? Today there're too many belts and all of them are disvalued. Charles Martin also was a champ. Jr has been sh!t for quite long and he has been declining more and more. He shocks time after time, doesn't he?

I kind of get the impression with Chavez Jnr, he’s already retired and doesn’t do any prep now beyond basically a bit of home gym exercise. And people keep paying him! Lol

The way boxing works and has done for over a century is that promotors ‘take a punt’ on fights to try and make money. So they aim to sell tickets and in the modern era PPVs, in order that their 1,000,000 can become 2,000,000. It’s amazingly simple. Yet some folk think ‘they’ should be paying folk who don’t put bums on seats out of their own pockets.

How long would such a business last if say it was the building trade? Build a house for £500,000 and sell it for £250,000…

I’m not saying I like it but it’s easy to understand. Chavez jnr is the son of a boxing legend. Like him or not he must sell or else nobody would take a punt on the guy.

Everyone seems to be cash grabbing at the moment with these novelty fights. What about five years down the line when everyone’s bored and you’ve not been investing in the next generation.

That’s a different business strategy and that’s why it’s normally only medalists and such who get that investment. Like betting favourites.

Who knows how good Silva would have been in boxing if he'd just taken that up instead of MMA.

That's an interesting question. Silva definitely has a decent boxing skillset and talents, like speed and reflexes. He fought at 185 in MMA and his prime was since circa 2004 until 2012.

This means he should have cut to 175 or be a qute small cruiserweight. It's tough to predict, how the weightcut could affect him, or how he would deal with good bigger and stronger guys, but probably he would have been at least a noticeable fighter, maybe even a belt-holder.

At the LHW of those times he would be thrown in the mix of Tarver, Dawson, Hopkins, Pascal, Adamek and declining Roy Jones. I don't think he would be able to beat them, except Jones, who wasn't there anymore. But probably Silva could grab a belt, acknowledging that the likes of Danny Green, Shumenov and some more forgettable competitors could do it.

At the CW of those times he would be thrown in the mix of Mormeck, O'Neil Bell, Haye, Cunningham, Wlodarczyk, Huck, Hernandez, Maccarinelli. Here it probably would be even tougher for him to grab a belt at least for some time, but maybe he could deal with the likes of Maccarinelli.

anderson had som skill for sure, but i think this is more jr being a total sack of goo at this stage

I’ve never seen anything from Silva (including his boxing matches) that make me believe he could have made it as a pro. He was a Muay Thai guy whose reach enabled him to knee the hell out of people. He had good power but hardly a boxers workrate.

I can’t really believe how bad Chavez looked tbh even though he was never top class.

I first saw silva when he easily beat Lee Murray who had a massive rep at the time.
