I wonder if it could be an issue with Canelo vs Plant fight being made for September? Hearn gives some glimpses

”[Regarding Plant], there's conversations to be had over the next sort of three, four, or five days, and it needs to gather pace. I don't think there's anything negative to say about it. This is clearly the fight Canelo Alvarez wants. He wants to become undisputed champion. But at the same time, September is his date, you know, and if the Plant fight’s not available now and has to be made in December or whatever, I think Canelo's mindset is: ‘I want to keep the momentum that I have right now," Hearn told the DAZN Boxing Show.
“And you know, let's not forget this guy's boxed three times in, you know, what, seven months, eight months, and it will be four flights in 10 months, which as a pound-for-pound number one in a pandemic is incredible.
“My instructions from Canelo, Alvarez, and Eddy Reynoso were, you know, what we want, we want Caleb Plant, but if that's not possible for September, show me the champions we can face. Clearly, a move up to 175, for now, is also on the agenda if that undisputed fight can't get made.” @ BS
Probably Plant would ask as much money as he can from Canelo, knowing that Canelo's wish is to be the first mexican unified smw champion BUT I have a sneaky feeling that if PBC would want this fight to be on their platform, then it could be a problem b/c Canelo (even if he's a free agent) may want that this fight to be on DAZN.
I don't know why PBC is holding some of their fighters only in their stable and not give them the opportunity to fight the best opposition, i.e Tank vs Lopez/ Loma/ Haney or Mall Charlo to fight Andrade (as Hearn made them a good offer) ?
If Canelo vs Plant won't happen from whatever reasons (not like Plant is a big threat for Canelo) I'd like to see Canelo fighting Bivol at 175 lbs and that would be a top-legit fight!

What you think plant could make vs charlo? I guess pbc could want that fight and if charlo wins then charlo vs canelo undisputed…
But for plant to give up garenteed canelo cash they would have to pay him very very well for a risky fight vs charlo.

I'd like to see Charlo vs Plant and I think it's a 50-50 fight. Probably Charlo would get the nod. Also if the winner would fight Benavidez then we would have top-legit opponnet for Canelo.
Plant vs Charlo - winner fights Benavidez - the winner gets Canelo!

Why would plant not want the canelo fight?

Why would plant not want the canelo fight?
He’s already rejected two opportunities to face Canelo.
And the rumour mill suggests he’s about to reject a third opportunity.
Let’s be clear, I’m referring to entirely different situations and timescales, not offers being rejected and then immediately revised etc.
He’s pricing himself out of a fight.

He said he wants $10m to $12m.. let’s wait and see. Time is ticking tbh

I did say in May that Plants financial demands were outrageous, considering the size of his typical paydays:
• $150K against Uzcategui
• $750K against Lee
• $750K against Truax
Canelo has options. He can go for Bivol, Beterbiev or Benavidez and receive more kudos than he’ll receive beating Plant.
Plant keeps rejecting opportunities and the time will come when he’ll be permanently blacklisted by Canelo.
The IBF strap really isn’t worth the hassle.

My first thought was:
"Surely he has some mandatory fights he could take to ensure he isn't stripped of any belts"

shoot me for my naivety

Yildrim was the WBC mandatory. He’s only just acquired the WBO title. And WBA ‘super’ champions aren’t really known to perform mandatories per se.

Both the IBF and the WBC have previously stripped Canelo of their 160lbs titles.

Although I've said that I can't blame Plant for demanding the best payday of his life from Canelo knowing that the ibf strap is the last piece of the Canelo's dream, I have to say that eo is right and yeah Plant is trying too much playing this greed-card. 7-8 M's would be a very nice fortune compared with his last paydays.
Pretty much Plant is trying to push out his luck and he forgets that Canelo is bigger than those belts. Bivol, Benavidez, Beterbiev are bigger and solid fights for Canelo.

Hearn has already said they’re negotiating the fright for DAZN.
But what you said wouldn’t be too bad.

Why would plant not want the canelo fight?
Other than being a loss on his record, I read he is demanding $10 million. No way he beats Canelo.

Or maybe Mall Charlo is such a darling for PBC that they want him somehow to get that ibf strap to have a big fight vs Canelo?
Maybe Plant would have/ 'end up' to fight Charlo b/c 'dazn vs pbc broadcasting rights debate' or b/c this 'apparently overpricing' strategy ?
The truth is that the ibf strap means the only solid bargain chip for a PBC fighter to get a big fight vs Canelo, and Charlo is a better name than Plant. Also I think most boxing fans including I, would rather see Canelo vs Charlo @ 168 lbs in an unification fight than Canelo vs Plant.

I don't think charlo will move up unless it's for canelo.

I like Charlo as a replacement but Beterbiev is the #1 guy at 175 atm, and has an impeccable record.

He is also 36. He can circle back around and fight Plant, and Charlo when he makes the decision to move up.

Obviously there’s a lot of complication legally and otherwise involved here, but if there is any chance in the world that Plant can fight Canelo he is a mad man if he doesn’t do it now. Has as much as leverage as he ever will with the IBF strap.

Indeed Beterbiev is the man at 175 but since he beat Gvozdyk in 2019-10, he didn't have no other interesting fight till the covid striked. A 36-37 y/o undefeated Beterbiev would be a very valuable trophy for Canelo(if he'd beat him).

Would you favour Beterbiev or Canelo? I'm going with Canelo, not out of favouritism, but because I genuinely believe that he's tailor made for the Mexican.

I didn't see Beterbeiv's last fight, but read he is fading and showing his age. Add a rehydration clause, etc. Sure, Canelo will fight him. Canelo is smart enough to wait guys out, like he did with GGG.
