"Oscar De La Hoya wants Canelo Alvarez fight after 2 tune-ups"

Oscar De La Hoya has added Canelo Alvarez to his list of big names that he wants to fight in his comeback after previously stating that Floyd Mayeather Jr is on his radar.

‘The Golden Boy’ De La Hoya, now 48-years-old, wants to get his hands on his former fighter Canelo (56-1-2, 38 KOs) after he gets a couple of tune-ups under his belt against former UFC champions Vitor Belfort in September and Anderson Silva in early next year.

De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) insists that his fight with former four-division world champion Canelo, 30, would be a “real fight.”

“You inspired me Mike [Tyson],” said former five-division world champion De La Hoya to the Tyson HotBoxin podcast. “Looking as good as you did against Roy [Jones Jr], just for coming back you inspired me. So, I said, ‘I want to do it too.’

“I want to do two of these fights and then, guess what? I want to do a real fight, a 12-round fight with either Floyd [Mayweather Jr] or Canelo,” said De La Hoya.

Let’s not forget that one of the issues that triggered Canelo’s lawsuit against GBP and DAZN, was Alvarez’s inability to receive his contractually-stipulated $35m minimum purse guarantee per bout, due to his desire to face (or having fought) non-premium opposition, such as: Danny Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith etc.

And the only names that DAZN considered as being premium opponents, were: GGG; Jorge Masvidal; Khabib Nurmagomedov; and Oscar De La Hoya.

So it’s clear that if DAZN consider De La Hoya as a “premium” opponent for Canelo, then it means they’re willing to pay big bucks to stage his fights.

Yeah, I’m someone that can actually be somewhat supportive of these senior type fights…..but as long as they stay in their own lane.

Oscar should stick to fighting celebs….non-boxing athletes….or fighters from his generation….he’d be embarrassed by Canelo….I guess he’d be okay with that for the right price.

ODLH will lose to this Vitor Belfor fellow. ODLH was a fighter that enjoyed most of his success relying on size and youth at junior welterweight. Just cause he is a boxer and Vitor is a mma fighter that doesn't mean that he will be able to handle that natrual cruiserweight. ODLH must be dumb as a doorknob to entertain these obviously difficult fights. Fck him and his peanut sized brain, personality issues and pugligist dementia.

The best exhibition bout for Oscar would be to rematch Tito Trinidad.

I've been thinking about what this poster said about the size difference. Yes it is insane, likewise if he thinks he's making a legitimate comeback. He should swap him out for Hatton or the winner of Cotto vs JMM. They should have a four man tournament yeah?
