It's not possible to give a proper evaluation, because he has been fighting in the lesser era and hasn't been hit much by anyone truly threatening. Castano was a good opponent, although he isn't considered a huge puncher. Charlo was in trouble, in a big one in the 3rd, but he overcame everything. It looks like 7-8 for now, but it gotta be tested more.

Am I correct in saying that apart from suffering a very brief flash knockdown (more than seven years ago) against Chalie Bellamy, which seemed to be caused by a combination of being caught standing square and also being off-balance, he’s never been knocked down despite facing the very best in his own weight class?

So let’s compare his chin to ESPN’s number one pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, Terence Crawford.

Didn’t Bud suffer a third-round knockdown against Egidijus Kavaliauskas as recently as 19 months ago?

So let me ask you a question based on YOUR logic, if Jermell’s chin is only a six (in terms of durability), then do you feel that Terence Crawford’s rating is much lower than that, because the calibre of opposition Bud has faced during the last four years is vastly inferior than Charlo’s?

Just to make myself clear, I’m not disputing your rating, but if you feel that Jermell’s chin is only a six on the durability scale, then nearly all the other world-rated fighters must be lower than that, because the calibre of foes they’ve faced over the last few years would have been inferior.

I really can’t help thinking that context is important.

Put it this way, fighters that regularly face the very best their division has to offer, usually deliver far less dominant performances over their opponents (superficially appearing less impressive) than their protected peers, who tend to look more spectacular.

The same thought process should be applied to chins also, don’t you agree?

Fighters that regularly face the very best their division has to offer, are usually hurt/rocked/stunned or forced to retreat by their opponents more often than their protected peers, who tend to look invincible/invulnerable.

So to return to my original point, I won't disagree with your evaluation of Jermell Charlo's chin only being a six on the durability scale, as long as you agree that most world-rated fighters should have a lower rating.

We’re seeing the top dogs at 154lbs occasionally hurt and also possessing blemished records, because they keep fighting each other, again-and-again.

Many welterweights “talk” about moving up a weight class to face the best at 154lbs, but it hasn’t actually happened for eight years (i.e. Mayweather-Canelo).

All the middleweights won’t fight each other either, which means that the bigger men tend to look more impressive, because they're facing weaker opposition.

So I’m of the opinion that 154lbs is one of the toughest weight classes in boxing. It’s underappreciated by fight fans.

If we see fighters occasionally troubled, suffer the occasional loss or draw or appear less dominant than those competing in other weight classes, then it’s usually because they’re facing the very best in their division.

It doesn’t mean they’re rubbish or have weak chins. Context matters!

He stood in with Castano, Cota, and Banana who are both good punchers. We’ve never seen him KOed. Has he even hit the canvas? I’d give him a 8/10.

12 hard rounds and he looked like he didn't have a scratch on him afterwards.

Not chinny and lucky he has a face that doesn't mark up or bruise.

ggg would corner him. murder him on the ropes. he's to twitchy. his jab is shit.

he objectively lost that fight.

is nobody keeping record like who would've been champion with fairly judged fights, like a timeline of corruption & won but denied championships.

castano should be undisputed. it's not a little hometown barn robbery wherever... IT WAS FOR THE fornicating UNDISPUTED... should it not be made sure that shit like that get's judged fairly?

i can't imagine the fvcking heartbreak.

u work ur ass off for that one opportunity to make history for your family, your country whatever... you beat the cocky mother fair and square ...just to get fucked over.

everybody knows it. nobody does shit about it.

Long story short.
Castano wobbled him a number of times during the first six to justify questioning his chin should someone heavier handed get to him, you can't pretend it didn't happen.
