Gennadiy Golovkin And Ryota Murata Won’t Take Interim Bouts Before Meeting On Dec.28th In Japan

By Allan Fox: "IBF middleweight champion Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KOs) and WBA champ Ryota Murata (16-2, 13 KOs) won’t be taking interim bouts before they meet on December 28th on DAZN at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
Dan Rafael reports that Golovkin, 39, and Murata, 35, won’t take interim fights due to the risk of injuries, as well as “not a lot of enthusiasm from DAZN.”
Rather than fight an interim bout in August or September, Golovkin and WBA 147lb champion Murata will sit and wait five months before fighting on December 28th." from BN24
Let's be honest, GGG is doing the right thing. Why to risk a big show / payday in Japan? G is old and he needs more time to recover and take care of himself.
Would Charlo, Andrade and Eubank Jr have the balls to fight each other , now that G is booked for Murata? Or they would stay idle/ fighting stiffs until GGG or Canelo would have no fights lined up?

Dec 28? Golovkin had a walk in the park against that Polish guy and fights next a year after?

By the time we’ll see GGG enter the ring against Murata, he would have been inactive for more than a year, whilst having only engaged in two bouts during the course of 31 months.
How much time does he really need “to recover and take care of himself”?

Golovkin will be compelled to face his IBF mandatory challenger immediately after the Murata fight, even though he’s officially engaging in a title unification.
Remember the names Patrick Wojcicki and Esquiva Falcao, because (to the delight of Matchroom, since both guys are Kamil Szeremeta calibre fighters), the winner of their upcoming bout will be facing GGG early next year.

All the top middleweights are ducking each other. And it annoys the hell out of me!
But to be fair, Chris Eubank isn’t a top middleweight, so he should be excluded from this conversation.
That said, Gennadiy’s choosing to take the fight with the most preferable risk vs. reward ratio, because there’s no denying that there are better opponents for him to face (i.e. Sergiy Derevyanchenko, Demetrius Andrade and Jermall Charlo).
Perhaps there’s a logical argument that GGG should remain on the safest path, whilst waiting patiently for his Canelo mega retirement payday (
and let’s face it, who’ll blame him, we’d all do the same thing if we were in his shoes), but I really can’t help disliking cherry-picking... even when old guys pretending to be the best do it!

G is old and smart enough to do smart moves for himself. FMJ showed that blueprint.

The fighter is taking all the risks to his health.

Eubank jr is ranked as No 6 MW by Boxrec, No 8 by The Ring and No 7 by espn. But yeah he was not beating someone good at mw.
Also Murata is ranked as no 5 by Ring and no 4 espn.

Maybe but he's doing well.
People just wants to see boxing wars and fighters hurting each other. GGG had more than enough of wearing and tearing.

People want to see big names clashing. There're Golovkin, Charlo and Mung, but all of them fight some mismatched nonames.

the ppl who expected much more out of an almost 40 year old at this stage prob have been expecting too much and overrating him, tbh i dont really mind a stretch of fights like derev-kami-murata for ggg now after the canelo loss. i hope he fights munguia after murata , that's the one i want most

ya, theyre doing that whole 'they wont fight each other, so people start ranking them by proxy' thing
when charlo handled sergey easier than ggg did, ppl moved mall ahead, but then literally 1 fight later he struggles with a guy who munguia blasted out in 2, so not sure that method really works very well lol

mall dealt with sergey easier than ggg did = mall > ggg
mung dealt with monitel waaaaay easier than mall did = mung > mall
=
mung > mall > ggg

my guess is that dazn 's vision here is to have ggg win this, and then munguia beat ggg next year to help boost him as a star for them, a changing of the guard type thing

Maybe all he needs is the opportunity? Lots of fighters in that boat, instead of coming up with lame excuses. What was Mungy's excuse for ducking? Even way back then, he beat Vanes much more clearly than Mell did, landing 100 more punches.

Do people have a problem with this opponent or just the delay between the fight? I see Murata as a solid opponent and I'm glad the fight is (seemingly) made.

i agree, the wait is too long but no problems for me with murata in japan. those big new year end shows are fun and it's an entertaining style match vs a guy who is in pretty much every top 10. as i said i think ppl are expecting too much from a guy almost 40, at a time where none of the elite mws are doing any better. murata is better than mall and andrade's last opponents
his last 3 will have been derev-kami-murata, all 3 ring top 10ers when he fought them
the one i want most is munguia though, pretty sure that happens next year as long as ggg doesnt take an L first

it's funny, i used to be ultra critical of ggg's matchamking when a lot of ppl gave him a pass / made excuses. i still think most of his career was eh
but now some of the ppl who used to be cool with what he was up to now are complaining, and i dont really get it, he actually stepped up and 2x faced the best fighter in the sport. now he's almost 40 and will have derev and murata, both consensus top 10 tough guys, among his last 3. seems pretty clear that he's being steered toward munguia after that if he wins, another good fight
i mean ffs the young prime lion mall had his big ppv 'step up' vs a guy old ggg had just beat. and some guys actually put him at #1 for that fight. now this would be a nother fun and established top 10 guy for ggg
i enjoy him now more than in his prime

It happens. TBH I wasn't a Pacman fan for a long time, the pactards really put me off. I couldn't appreciate his ability. I've re-watched some of his older fights recently. Fk me he was something special. What he did to Barrera, first fight, and what he showed in that fight was unbelievable. His footwork was/is phenomenal. That will keep him mildly competitive against Spence, until he gets stopped in the later rounds.

Maybe but if G looks good vs Murata they would have to wait a little more. Also I think Munguia would get that WBO belt if Andrade moves up at 168.
GGG vs Munguia could be in a marination process but first Mung should get a belt. Anyway it'd be a big fight in terms of numbers.
