Right it is hardly the most inspired pick ever but at the same time I could end with egg on the face even in the next few days but I am calling it....

Lauren Price is going to be a world champion and universally considered #1 P4P female fighter within 3 years of turning pro. She's bloody brilliant. That "in and out" fighting style which I love seems to be a dying art and its nice to see it executed so well.

I also predict Marshall vs Price will be the first all British female fight that will headline a PPV (well PPVs might be dead but you get me) - and Price will win.

Mind you - I said something similar to another exponent of the "in and out" style as an amateur, Tony Doherty and that didn't exactly go to plan. From what I've heard Price has different mentality. The footwork was something else - she was like Shane Mosley.

I remember watching Katie Taylor for the first time and going "feck me, that was a bit special" - TBH that is the only time I have done that watching female amateur boxing, I thought exactly the same watching Price. Sorry if there is an Olympic Boxing Thread - can't see it.

LOL Fair enough. But at its present level I can’t believe most true boxing fans give a rat’s arse about women’s boxing. Watching the women boxing is like watching mid level amateur male club fighters who can’t punch. I sat though a middleweight? fight between a fat Russian and an American. Just cringed at how low quality it was.

When the women’s game improves I might be vaguely interested but women are not built for boxing largely. The only woman fight I enjoyed, and mainly cos of the ‘beef’ and the build up was Big Tits Bridges vs Shannon ‘alleged baby face’ Courtenay.

Yeah part of the reason why I'm lauding Price is due to the lack of depth....it will need to get to Marshall and Shields to test her

You can never be sure how well an amateur transfers to the pro ranks. With female fighters they can still fight 2m x 10 rounds in an amateur style, but the really successful pros sit down on their punches. Look at how Clarissa Shields changed it up.

Said it many times ,, I just don't like womens boxing ,,, but will say a fight i really enjoyed watching in these Olympics was the featherweight English girl Kariss Artingstall and the Aussie Skye Nicolson good fight some good skills , English girl was lucky to get the nod , it was just one of them toss a coin for the winner fights , 1 very close but clear rnd each , the final rnd ,, who do you pick , the busier english girl kariss or the cleaner puncher Skye ,, ,,, Kariss getting a very close nod .
If all womens boxing was like this i would change my mind about it

shields has scored 1 kd and 2 stoppages in all her pro fights, not sure she's really changed the game with sit down hard punching

Hmm, this Olympics I'm noticing less fighters (male and female) bouncing about on their toes like in the past. There are still some, but on the whole I have noticed more boxers sitting down on shots in the sub heavyweight classes.
And without the big crowd noise, you can hear the difference in shots, a lot less pitty pat stuff than in the past.

tbh i still find the female quality pretty dire......

the big star being predicted here is a 5'5 super middleweight 28 year old, baby girl is thick

though tbh, the italian lightweight girl has been more dominant than price over the last few years and is 5 years younger, she seems like the best female around atm

That's true - sometimes the bouncing boxing - jumping in and out of range quickly is effective. A young Shane Mosley, particularly early in contests used to mesmorise fighters with both his foot and handspeed.

That's true - sometimes the bouncing boxing - jumping in and out of range quickly is effective. A young Shane Mosley, particularly early in contests used to mesmorise fighters with both his foot and handspeed.

im gonna go out on a limb and say some of these high expectations guys will underperform as pros

a lot of them are mid to late 20s, been fighting in the ams for years, and are often older and far more experienced than their amateur opponents who are often early 20s or even teens. increasingly there is a 'pro amateurs' vibe. frazer clarke, cheavon clarke, pat and luck mc, peter mcgrail, lauren price.....all 26-30 years old

pat mccormack for example - this is his 2nd olympics to hone his craft and get it right. whereas genuinely outstanding talents like rigo and loma who were in the ams for years were already gold medalists at like 20. even usyk, who had a slower pace, was world am champ at 23-24, euro senior champ at 20, worlds medals at 21, etc. aj was considered a late starter and was already worlds runner up at 21 and olympic gold at 22.

in the pro game, i suspect many will go in almost already the full article and wont be able to improve as much as most pros do. they will also have less time to fight at the high levels while still ideal age

btw despite ditching the headgear and punch per point style scoring, the whole hit and run patty cakes approach is still really common. ben whitaker on it tonight and the irish team seem to especially love it lol.........aiden walsh was just told to box and stop running
