Question: How are the rankings affected by
Michael Hunter's TKO 4 win over
Mike Wilson?
My vote: No change.

Keep him where he is.
Still won, shouldn't move down. Can't move him up.
No one below is even making waves..
what a crap division.

Hunter up to 7
The lack of scheduled fights for 11 of those guys is depressing.

No change. Actually, I've even thought about putting Hunter down.

Can't think of a reason to put Hunter up. No change for me.

Hunter down to #9.
I count this fight as inactivity. IT has been too long without decent win for him.

Hunter to 9. Was going to move him down to 12 but relised that puts him below the pensioners pulev and Ortiz.
If you can only go down for losing then you can be inactive and fight bums and hold your ground forever.

He obviously did something for us collectively rank him up there..

He beat bakole and kuzmanโฆ who themselves have had a fall from grace in how people rate them I think. And drew with Pov who was old (although nothing at all like the post covid version whyte stopped). They are fine in a slow division, and to get you somewhere, for me though those 3 results arnt quality enough to keep you there when you regress to beating binmen.
But everyone gets a vote, and has an opinion.

No change. Wilson isn't good enough to justify rating Hunter over Joyce.

if someone thinks he's too high to start, of course they can move him down even if he wins

The fact is we put him there and the guys below arenโt doing shรฏt. Theyโre hardly even fighting or winning at least.
Thatโs why my vote is to keep it as is.
Hopefully these guys start fight and each other.
Theyโre just waiting around for mandatories to be called or be move up ranks by beating guys not worthy of being in the top20.

Agreed, Hunter to #9
Having him above Parker, will just result in Parker's resume acting as a buttress to stop Hunter falling down the list further as people below start winning.
Hunter has done nothing of late to justify his position.

Hunter out, Hrgovic to 8

I'm never going to watch Hunter vs Wilson as it's meaningless but I watched the first half of Hunter-Povetkin on my break at work the other night to see why people had him so high originally, and thought to myself OK even though that was scored a draw he looked good in there against a top 10 (at the time) opponent and thought: well, if he continues to fight knockovers in-between rap battles then he's essentially irrelevant, but I can't demote him just yet.
Then I checked his record and saw that in 2020 he fought Shawn Laughery, a 6 foot 10-3-0 nobody who has never fought anybody of note with a 42% KO ratio in a fight that went completely under my radar, and the Povetkin draw was in 2019.
Hunter is inactive, fights easy fights and threw away the fight with Hrgovic which, win or lose, would have been meaningful and kept him relevant. He's not showing any ambition at the moment to be a contender or further himself towards a world title. He might be coining it in for all I know, and fair play to him for that, but he's not making any effort to keep himself relevant or positioned amongst the best, and there's no fight against anybody of any relevance on the horizon either.
That's a demotion for me.
At least Parker fought somebody in the top 15 and got a debatable win, even if he didn't look great. I can't have Hunter over him.
Hunter to 9.

I'll change mine to 5 just to try and balance those dropping a guy after a win, no matter how one-sided.

there is absolutely nothing wrong with dropping a guy after a win if you think he's too high to start with. plus rankings are not only based on what you do, but what others do too
and boxing isnt just about winning, but actually winning meaningful fights. buck smith had almost 200 wins

It was our votes that put him there in the first place. So how does he drop after a win?

We didn't vote Parker over him after his last fight. That was the time to do it. No?

rankings are something which involve ongoing reassessment. there is absolutely nothing about beating mike wilson that is impressive or should obligate people not to demote hunter if they thought he was too high to start.
his rating has been questioned several times before this vote. the nature of the vote is also that we can only vote on a fighter if they've actually fought, which hunter has done only twice in 2 years. now it's a rare case that he's up for a vote and a lot of people think he's too high, i just dont see any problem at all with lowering his ranking

Meh, we don't do that generally. Can't remember someone going down after a win, even a against a can.

pretty sure oscar rivas got voted down didnt he
i see absolutely 0 problem with it.,.guys shouldnt get some sort of immunity for beating nobodies
the way the rankings work is that sometimes guys drift too high, and it's tough to change the situation until they actually fight and we can vote on them. he may not fight for another year at his rate, this is the chance people get to place him where they think he should be
moving him down 1 spot is hardly unreasonable
