Shane McGuigan says he is ‘disappointed’ in Carl Frampton, after ‘The Jackal’ helped out in the corner of Tommy McCarthy on Saturday last.

The former two-weight world champion surprised his former trainer, who he since has fallen out with by turning up at Fight Camp and working the corner of ‘Big Tommy’ as he fought McGuigan Gym fighter Chris Billam Smith.

The trainer has since accused his former friend of trying to steal the limelight from the fighters and make the occasion all about him.

In fairness to the now-retired Frampton, he was asked by close pal McCarthy and his team to help out in the corner and the move did generate more interest in the fight.

However, McGuigan wasn’t happy with the move and expressed his disappointment when speaking to Seconds Out after his fighter emerged victorious.

“I knew he was coming, it’s just a shame he is trying to steal the limelight from Tommy because he’s had his moment, he’s retired

“If he’s going to come into our dressing room be the butler boy, pay for his own way to come over it looks like he’s trying to steal the attention.

“I was just a bit disappointed in that, to be honest, our beef aside it’s not about me and him. That’s the thing that annoyed me, that people were trying to draw the attention away from CBS and Tommy. They’re the ones that are going in there, they’re the ones that are fighting.

“At the end of the fight both [McCarthy and Billam-Smith] congratulated each other on a great contest, that’s the way it should be not Frampton trying to stay relevant.”

Again Frampton, who was once trained by McGuigan and promoted by fellow Irish fight legend Barry McGuigan, was asked to attend and act as seconds and obliged.

Pictures of him in ‘The Gentleman’s’ dressing room monitoring the hand wrapping alongside McGuigan did grab widespread attention but such was the quality of the 12 rounds ‘The Mac Attack’ and ‘CBS’ produced that the fighters took centre stage.

Yeh, he was ASKED to do it and Shane is saying he was trying to steal the lime light.

Blame DAZN, they're the ones that had cameras backstage showing it us..

Had they not recorded or shown us or showed live pics of it, no one would be talking about it.

Muck Fe!! That’s a picture and a half. I bet Bazza wanted to crack him one.

I stopped following the case. How did it pan out?

The McGuigans were asked to produce emails - they said they no longer had access to the emails after but there was nothing untoward in the emails anyway.

Framptons team somehow located all the emails and the McGuigans instantly offered to pay a settlement fee.

Barry and the whole family are as dodgy as they come.

Framptons man lost at the end of the day. All a bit embarrassing for him therefore I would say. If you're going to play those games, you've got to win the fight.

Barry must be standing there wishing he was 30 years younger, and he’d have been right, he would’ve knocked out Frampton :box:

I still like all of them, Carl included, but that’s boxing it rarely ends well

I bet Frampton was 'disappointed' that the McGuigans robbed him!

Nobody in that room looks remotely happy or comfortable, even the cameraman.

He’s never been part of the team. It’s a wind up and mind games. Shane should get over it , it’s not like it’s Paul Sykes turning up.

Fair play to the main protagonists - it’s indicative of the strong character and self discipline of Frampton and the McGuigans that with such intense bad blood between them they can inhabit the same space without it kicking off. Lesser men wouldn’t have been able to hold their emotions in check

It was poor from Frampton really. If he’s genuinely part of the team & of any use then fair enough but he’s supposed to be watching the wraps for his mates biggest fight & instead of watching he’s just acting a tit filming himself & the others in the room & posting it on Instagram

Personally I think Shane showed good form in his viewpoint of it all

Not really , it does'nt take a lot of concentration to watch hands being rapped , plus he would know more than anyone if its a formality or if you had to really watch for shane pulling a shonky

How "disappointed" would a boxer be if he found a session in a tanning parlour, women's shoes and items from an upmarket lingerie store had been added to expenses?

I thought McGugan came across badly, doesn't seem to get why Frampton feels bitter and doesn't appreciate what the McGuigans have done for him!
Incredible arrogance or stupidity.

After that court case, how anyone can take the McGuigans side is mind blowing 🤯

They tag teamed Frampton and lived off him. Hid the evidence and when it was uncovered they about turned and settled. Just the usual boxing business people I suppose. Still scummy. Bless their cotton socks.

Frampton was trained and managed beautifully and earned well

I don't know the details but I would rather have 50% of £1m than 90% of £100k

You’d be rightly furious. If it was any other business then they’d be fired for expenses fraud.

He was trained, managed and promoted well (although Barry wanted to be co-promoter for another % which caused his split from Matchroom) but that doesn’t excuse the dodginess and corruption from some members of the McGuigan family.

There’s a reason they settled rather than having more of their dirty laundry brought to attention.

For what it’s worth I think Shane is an excellent trainer and probably wasn’t involved with the funny business but, as would most, he’s been heavily on the defensive with his family.

Of course

I am just thinking about they key areas- training, management and money; and they have big ticks against at least 2 of these 3 elements (and in theory if the boxer is trained and managed correctly then bigger money will follow)
