WBO featherweight champ Scott "The Real McCoy" Harrison (23-2-2), has been offered a unification fight with WBA/IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (43-2-1). The bout could take place as soon as May 7th in Las Vegas, and has already been approved by team Marquez. Trainer/manager of Team Marquez, Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, stated that with this fight, Marquez would finish his contract with Top Rank, although he also stated that he would not stop listening to offers to renew the contract with Top Rank. Beristain also recognizes the great opportunity for his fighter, because of the chance to win a third title and unify the division "The only other belt that would be lacking would only be the WBC, which would not be impossible to dispute for it." Marquez had been working very hard training for his proposed fight against Manny Pacquiao, however when that fight fell through, Beristain ordered him to rest and only dedicate himself to recreational training. "This coming week he will be here in the gym," stated Beristain.

No way he gets anywhere close to beating Marquez, way too much skill for Scott and if Manny couldn't finish him I don't see Harrison doing so.
Can't see this fighting coming off.

Let's hope Scott gets a good pay day because I can't see him winning. Marquez is too clever and will outbox him easily.

Hope it happens though..

This is the worst matchup style wise for Harrison, Marquez is slicker than Polo, and hits harder than Medina. He rattled Pacquaio wine skull jarring shots throughout their fight, and is as tough as they come. Even Pacquaio's numbing power couldn't keep him down, Scott's chances of breaking him down are very slender indeed. He certainly won't win by leading with left and right hooks.

Newsflash- there are very few harrison 'nut huggers' here.

Stop trying to make out we're all blind patriotic fans who can't recognise a bad fighter.

As for this fight, harrison will be blasted into oblivion, and i imagine there are very few here who would think otherwise.

if frank has any sense he'll cash in harrison straight away with this fight. I actually think he will, after scott's last showing how many more stiffs can he fight before the public realise he's not up to the job?

I'd be surprised if this fight actually happens. Marquez priced himself out of the Pac-Man rematch and Harrison has Frankie handling his business.

Yes, as said here earlier, who exactly are you referring to when you mention 'Harrison Nuthuggers?' I haven't seen anyone on here who is deluded about Harrison's abilities as a fighter. Far from it in fact.

Maybe they will decide to cash in Harrison's chips in a 'shit or bust' type fight with Marquez. Where else is there to go, there's surely going to be diminishing returns putting him in with sub world class opposition, and it's risky putting him in with anyone in the Polo mold, e.g a technically good, world class fighter.

Might as well throw him in with the lions in the division and see if he can pull off an upset. Though of course, what do I know about business?

Problem is, Marquez is a little deluded about his Marquee value, his fight with Pacquaio wasn't big business, even though it was a great matchup, and neither man is a massive draw. The fight would probably have to be held in either mexico or Scotland to get a big crowd, as the arena wasn't even full in Vegas for Marquez v Pacquaio.

Boys stop rising to the bait, bloke only pops up when he has something inane to say or has a pop at the brits. Treat his posts with the contempt they deserve.

Well here's Scot's big fight if he wants it, and full credit to him if he takes it on.
Maloney might have a hard time giving this one a miss, after his recent comments re a defining fight for Harrison. Because I'm sure, like the rest of the world, he sees this as a fight where Scot is going to get boxed to a stand still.
Marquez is near untouchable once he gets into his rythm, plus has a right hand that will leave Scot wishing he was back in the relative comfort of the first Medina fight.

Still, these are the type of fights us UK fans have been asking for - Eastman, Hatton and now Harrison - taking on three of the best P4P fighters in the world.

For my money, Marquez is the best featherweight in the world. The only man I see maybe beating him is Barrera, in what would be a fantastic fight. This is the big moment for Harrison to put up or shut up. Of course, as said earlier negotiations could be difficult, but the hopefully, the fact that one payday has gone begging for Marquez, will make negotiations easier.

Yes I thought he won the PacMan fight and deserves to be No#1 at featherweight ( course a rematch really should have happened ).
And he seems to have missed the boat big time by passing on that recent big pay day. He'd be a lot easier to negotiate with on the back of that you'd think.

Of course, Maloney is probably, allegedly, secretly praying he prices himself out of this one.

"Maybe they will decide to cash in Harrison's chips in a 'shit or bust' type fight with Marquez."

That's exactly the point I made on another board, cash in on him while you still can. He could very easily lose against an unknown eastern-european and never be heard from again.

yes indeed known as "light middelweight syndrome" since 2003 when all out potential world stars got beaten up one by one without even facing one another

As said already - Worse possible style match up.

I see a disinterested unmotivated Marquez totally outboxing Scott in a bit of a snoozer without coming out of 2nd gear. All the while daydreaming of the Manny fight he missed out on.

MAB is a little less slick and a bigger name - Scott would look better before folding from the left hooks to the belly by midway.

Chi - Unlikely but possibly winnable (Sugama had him on rubber legs) and a great war to witness

Morales - Another great war to see, perhaps resembling his fight against Chi althought Harrison wouldn't hear the final bell.

If it's shit or bust Marquez should be ruled out as he'd make Scott look much worse than the others even if he lasted the distance.

Harrison will insist on this fight. Whatever anyone thinks about his skill/ability you can't question his desire to fight the top men in the division and I think he'd be happy to accept the short end if need be.

I dont see him winning it but good luck to him.

I think Blue is an excellent poster and spices things up a bit on the board.

As far as the fight goes, I can only see one winner.

you only think that due to his incessant criticism of hatton, Lirva. The fact that both of you cricised hatton for not fighting world class fighters anbd now he is going to be in with the best you both still give him no credit at all. See recent thread by blue "what has hatton done to warrant a shot at Zoo". Well hello you were the geezer moaning that he never fought anyone and now you got your wish so make your mind up.

its hypocritical and pathetic.

Plus you are entitled to your opinion, Blue his, and i mine, I dont like his posts one bit he crawls out of the woodwork once a month and uses terms like "Harrison nuthuggers" as a title for friggs sake, one suggests this is going to provoke such reactions as listed above by myself riddick and James.
Save it for the current scene, you bore me.

Quite, there's no shame in trying and failing, just in not trying. He may have less ability than Calzaghe, but he appears to have a lot more desire.

I used to have loads of running battles with Blue on the Current Scene before the British forum opened, the old fella hasn't changed much it seems. Come on Blue play fair...we criticise Harrison, Hatton, Calzaghe etc as much as if not more than anyone else. This forum has not yet resorted to "nuthugging" any British fighters from what i have seen.

Check out the Current Scene and look at the Mike Tyson, Joe Mesi etc die hards for "nuthugging"

Some young man wrote to me once, wanting to write for the site. Obviously a confused youth, he seemed to think his main selling point was that he wasn't a Roy Jones 'nuthugger'.

Use of the said term itself left me little option other than to refuse his kind offer.

Yes we don't "nut hug" in Britain old boy, strictly an American pass time, from what I hear.

I do not understand the term myself but is it giving George Bush a cuddle?
