saw someone suggest this on another forum

a boxer must throw a punch at least every 15 seconds (or something like that) or it counts as a foul, and leads to them being penalized and eventually dq'd if they keep at it

for those who think it's crazy, they used to have something like this in the ams - not a specific time requirement, but would regularly penalize guys for not engaging

yay or nay for something like this? i have a feeling a lot will think it's ridiculous, but i dunno, try watching the rigo fight from last night,, im very happy he lost and didnt get awarded for that showing

Don't know if they actually stopped that in the ams or just don't use it , but your correct i knew a ref years ago who would quite often stop ameteurs and warn them engage or get out ,,, he also had a thing for another rule which people break now that was grunting like a tennis player when punching , it was against the rules , actually called useless uttering , don't know if theve changed them or just ignore them

I appreciate the spirit in which this suggestion is made, but it's not needed, in the UK at least. British rules already list "not trying" as a foul. If a boxer simply isn't throwing punches, warn him, then deduct a point, then DQ him. So the mechanism for dealing with the problem is already there.

I've got time for this either engage or get the f**k out of the ring - even if your a defensive "chess" type boxer,don't just get in the ring and box to not lose and play it overly safe and not try and box to win

I appreciate boxing that isn't an all out take 2shots to get 1off do every time,but i think when a "fighter" just dilly dallys and doesn't show any competitive spirit in the attacking sense I think it's laughable and Embarassing

I'm all for defensive movements,brilliant footwork, and all the rest of it but compliment your defence with attacks,even if you set traps and bring your opponent on to shots

Don't take unnessecary punishment but don't just prance about trying not to come into any sort of exchange

I seem to remember Fury and Kevin Johnson both getting a warning for being too negative at one point when they fought

Refs do regularly stop the action in the pro's, especially when there are boo's, to tell the boxer to engage.

Did the ref do that at all with Rigo-Cas?

The ref had to tell both boxers to throw punches during the first round of Haye v Harrison

Haye wanted his bet to come up. Harrison was just terrified as per.

I was an amatuer referee, many years ago, ,
there is no rule,
but if a boxer is not throwing punches against his opp, then the refereee can caution him,

cant recall any points ever being taken, if so it hardly ever happens even when one guy is running a track meet.

ref never said anything to them about it for rigo-cas

Maybe if the ref warned them once.. ot might have been different

Boxing needs less gimmicks right now in my opinion.
