Re: Ratings - please read before commenting
Hi- I try to get a look at the rankings each week before the fights take place so that I can take note of them, but I was a bit late today and a few of the fighters I was interested in had already fought.
Can someone please tell me the rankings of the following fighters immediately prior to their fights today?
Karrem Hackett
Rowdy Legend Montgomery
Brian Mendoza
Serhii Bohachuk
Also, curious what Alen Babic would be ranked at heavyweight right now if he were in the rankings (I'm guessing he's out because of some bridgerweight nonsense?)

BoxRec Ratings WHR.1.3 Live
BoxRec ratings WHR 1.3 were set live today.
Ratings cap for best performance within last 18 months was abandoned, because it caused inconsistencies for KO losses (loser with improved rating) and for draws and close results (both boxers with improved ratings).

I find it wild that I fight guys ranked higher than those of who are ahead of me in the rankings and have much better records than their opponents. Just got a win and somehow I got moved back even further. Hopefully we can go back to how you use to rank it years ago and had how many points each fighter has. I try to fight my way up the ladder

With the new release an old rule for boxers with less than 6 bouts was not included. So those boxers now are ranked too high. This error is corrected and the correction will go live the next days. Sorry for that.Anil Özdemir wrote: ↑07 Apr 2024, 08:30 I don't understand how the boxers listed in Boxrec ?? Before 3 days i was at the welterweight at top 806 and after 1 day i was at top 942. So you have me on the list with guys like this ??
ID# 517234
You guys dropped me down like 800 rankings doesn’t make any sense and guys like that guy are way up there. I would understand when I dropped down to like 900 because I haven’t fought like 5 months.
But I got me next fight against a top 200 I really don’t understand why you guys dropped me down that much it just doesn’t make any sense at all

Dear Boxrec Team,
I am reaching out to you today to discuss a matter that is of great importance to me and one that I would like to address with you. First and foremost, I want to express my appreciation for the work and dedication you put into creating and maintaining your rankings. The Boxrec portal is undoubtedly a valuable resource for boxers like myself and the entire boxing community worldwide.
However, I would like to express a certain level of confusion and frustration regarding the recent changes to my placement in the German rankings. Following my last bout against Israle Duffus, where I deliberately chose my opponents carefully to achieve a significant jump in the rankings, I was pleased to see that I had risen from 18th to 12th place in Germany, as displayed on your portal.
It is regrettable that I must now find that my placement has changed without apparent reason. In particular, I have noticed that two other boxers, Rashad Karimov and Christian Pawlak, who were ranked 296th and 206th in the world respectively before my fight against Israle Duffus, have now climbed to 83rd place. This deeply surprises me, as both were placed behind me before my last fight. It seems that this change is not in line with the actual performances and merits of the athletes.
Additionally, I would like to point out that before the update, I was ranked 118th in the world, while Christian Pawlak was at 206th place and Rashad Karimov at 296th. (See attached screenshot) Many German professional boxers have made significant leaps forward after the update, while all my points were completely taken away. I do not understand why I was given half a star after my last fight and then it was taken away again. This is particularly disappointing as I wanted to fight against the mentioned boxers and therefore still have the screenshots before the update, which now show a completely different scenario for the next fight.
I deliberately relied on Boxrec's Predictor Tool to prepare for my last three fights, seek sponsors, and finance these matches in order to achieve the rankings promised by your tool. Despite my efforts, I have been placed worse, and some people behind me have moved ahead.
Therefore, I request an explanation for this unexpected shift and a review of my placement. Otherwise, I have spent money unnecessarily for the last three fights because nothing has changed after the update. An accurate and fair placement on your rankings is of great importance to me and my career.
Thank you in advance for your attention and your prompt response to my inquiry. I am confident that we can find a satisfactory solution together.
Sincerely,
Yusuf Sultanoglu
I wrote Boxrec an e-mail beforehand with all the proof pictures in addition to their predictor tool where it shows which place I will be etc. unfortunately I just don't know how to add it here

@Yusuftheprince
I see your points.
But the prediction tool always relies on the current version of the ratings. Sometimes a change in the ratings is inevitable, because some details in the ratings show inconsistencies.
The former version of the ratings had to be changed due to such problems - as said above:
Ratings cap for best performance within last 18 months was abandoned, because it caused inconsistencies for KO losses (loser with improved rating) and for draws and close results (both boxers with improved ratings).
After the inevitable changes of the ratings the value of your recent opponents dropped and so dropped your rating.

hello my friend,
Do I understand correctly? I have tirelessly worked to gather funds from sponsors and even invested a portion of my own salary to face specific opponents. Take, for example, Israle Duffus, who is now ranked at 420th place. However, when I fought against him, his ranking corresponded to that of a boxer ranked at 150th place. This means that I paid him a higher fee than he actually deserved. Consequently, all three of my recent fights have resulted in losses solely due to your updates. This is not fair; I bleed for this sport and have even put my own salary on the line.
I ask for your assistance. Please.

- without your win against Israel Duffus you would rank now only at #190
- and additionally without your win against Ibrahim Yildirim you would now rank only at #248
- and additionaly without your win against Piotr Budziszewski youu would now rank only at #268
But it was not BoxRec, who told you to fix your money paid to the BoxRec rank of your opponents.

You have to be very careful making sweeping comments like this. Yes, you are correct that it was not BoxRec that fixed the money paid. But you have to remember that BoxRec has, for many years, been the main source of a boxer's rating. Your reputation relies on stability and consistency. The recent changes have destabilised the rankings by changing them so significantly. If issues like this persist then confidence in the site will start to drop and people will seek other sources of information to based their decisions on.

First of all, thank you for your answer.
Of course the struggles were worth it, but unfortunately not compared to the output due to the change. I would have reached this ranking with just one fight, but I had to finance 3 opponents. I just want to illustrate how hard it was to earn this money and then get another result that was awarded. i was ranked 12th in germany now i'm ranked 20th - that's a huge difference.
yes boxrec didn't tell me how to set up the prizes but i've been a professional boxer since 2017 and every opponent or even from friends has their prize determined by the rankings.
as Mr. @578272 already said, otherwise the website loses credibility and i respect your work very much but unfortunately this is not okay, if you can't help me i would like to talk to someone else

Sorry, but nobody will be able to help you with that. As said, the general change in the ratings was inevitable due to inner inconsistencies. The latest BoxRec rating rules always are applied to all boxers with no exemptions. No individual adaptions. All results in the database are calculated every day from scratch according with the latest rules.

I think the recent change was a big improvement. The only issue I see remaining is some guys who have not had a decent performance in a VERY long time are pretty highly ranked, sometimes over top guys in the division:
- Broner #9 at 147 (over Ugas and Rocha)
- Farmer #9 at 130 (over Magsayo and Lara)
- Rigo #5 at 118 (over Donaire and Santiago)

The concept of dropping boxers due to missing opponent quality results in rating inconsistencies. That was the reason for the last change.

Ortiz reach a career high 10.85 points with his win against Martin in 2022 and lost a bit with his loss against Ruiz.

Yes, I've been complaining about this for a while. During Covid it was expanded to 3 years and I thought that was ideal.jujigatame wrote: ↑10 Apr 2024, 19:50 I think the recent change was a big improvement. Dropping it all together though.... has some of these guys lingering near the top and is a different kind of strange.
I wonder how the pool of points for top fighters has changed over time and if that is a contributing factor?
