Nearly each of these options have some clauses, which make an option less impressive, than it has initially looked like.

For example, Chavez and Mayweather had a lot of mismatches, which were held on purpose to boost records, while Golovkin and Louis had huge parts during their reigns, when there simply weren't challenging fights.

Many different numbers are hyped to attract casuals.

SRR win over Hagler is freaking impressive despite how cose it was. But i am going in this with Geogre Foreman, because age is definitely NOT just a number, especially number 45. And i dont count here just his win over Moorer, but whole heavyweight path after return

Len Wickwar having 472 pro fights is pretty staggering.

So Pacquiao winning titles in mutltiples classes is INSANE but De la Hoya doing the same in the same period is nothing because of the multiplication of BS titles right? Showing your true colors once again.

I would choose Harry Greb's 1919... going 45-0 and beating 5 Hall of Famers a total of 10 times in the process.

the volume records will never be matched again......11 title defenses in a year, 45-0 in a year, len warwickr's record etc


i could see benetiz's record being beat .....get a kid in a country like mexico or the phillipnes turning pro early , and then get a shot at a weak beltholder or vacant belt

joe louis 25 title defenses ---and that's with the war, dude coulda gotten 30+

Having 3/8 or 37% of the available world titles has to be the winner. WIth Benitez winning a title at 17 a close second

Totally. These are records that can't be repeated because the sport is just different. It's like Cy Young and wins. Fighters will never be able to sniff these records

I have always been in the middle on this. My main problem is that it is not official. What makes it a newspaper Decision? If there is only one newspaper reporter there, does that count as much as if there was 20 reporters there?

If there many reporters there, how we know for sure that every single one of them was counted?

On the other hand, it has to count for something. It wasn't an exhibition. Two guys were going at it. Presumably they were trying hard, given that a fighter could lose by stoppage/Ko. Also there reputation was on the line with the newspaper reporters there, the fans in attendance. Most guys were fight their bst just out of pride.

I think it should count for something, just not as much as a official win.
Lets say Fighter A and Fighter B fought once and it was a newspaper decision. Fighter A "won" the series".
However if they fought fought another time and Fighter B won an official decision in the rematch, Fighter B won the series.

ND = No official decision....
I don´t give anything for so-called "Newspaper Decisions".
Try to have a look at the records of Jack Britton and Ted Kid Lewis on this site.
I think that Britton lost four so-called Newspaper Decicions, but still kept his championship.
That shows what "Newspaper Decisions" are worth.

Other : George Carpentier fighting in all 8 categories at a competitive level.

The man became pro at 14 as a flyweight to then become World light-heavyweight champion and European Heavyweight champion. Quite an achievement

And the man also have the craziest of lives. Being one of the first white champion to give a shot at black senegalese challenger despite the pressure he got from that. He was also a huge fan of Jack Jonhson and tried to model his defensive style after him.

Despite being a boxer and fighting in gruesome eras the man died at 83 (insanely old for its time) from natural causes in the 70's.

Most people sadly remembers him for his KO loss against Dempsey (mostly due to a wrist injury) late in his career and forget everything he achieved before that.

Carpentier certainly had an interesting career. Fought so many top fighter, even though he missed time because of World War I. Don't think the wrist injury was the main reason he lost to Dempsey though; he was in over his head. He was an interesting fighter who we probably don't talk enough about.
