It's amazing to realize that Minter lost four times on cuts in the span of one year. The time period was 1973 to 1974. I wonder what he and his people were thinking about that point. They must have felt despair.
Another interesting fact about Minter is that he never won the British Commonwealth title. I wonder why the promoters never set up a title fight for that belt. The champions during that period, 1974 through 1978, were Monty Betham, Al Korovu, and Ayub Kalule.
There was no money in it. Minter destroyed Betham in two rounds in a scheduled 10-rounder.

Can anyone find a video of Minter's fight against Emile Griffith? I remember they showed the highlights on a live American TV broadcast the day it occurred. That was the undercard to Monzon-Valdez II. The film clip showed Alan flooring Griffith twice.
Alan Minter vrs Emile Griffith
and Alan Minter vrs Gratien Tonna I
both fights from 1977 are out there but not presently on Youtube as of now
(as far as I can tell).
you would have to spend some coin to get a Alan Minter career DVD to see 2 those fights at this point,
but if they should show up on youtube in the near future, I will edit them into this thread.
( for the Alan Minter compleatist here)

of all of Alan Minter's losses by TKO due to facial cuts.
What were the score cards going into the various rounds when the fights were stopped ?
because 8 years as a pro seems a long time to get a shot at the title,
( most likely he would have won the gold medal at the 1972 Olympics if there wasn't some 'home cooking" involved it looks like and
concievably he could have gotten a shot at Carlos Monzon and the title at one point around 1977 ?

Concerning the Minter-Licata match, I'm wondering if Licata put on a subpar performance that night. I mean, Licata really gets belted around the ring in every round. He passed most of the fight, seemingly, in a daze.
Is it possible that the version of Licata we saw in this bout is a shot fighter, a guy who's reflexes and vitality have disappeared? Or was did Licata always look like that?
I know that Licata beat Emile Griffith in Boston. So, I'm guessing that Licata must have been a good fighter at his best. That version of Licata may not be the same version that showed up to fight Minter. I really don't know.
I'd love to find a video of Licata W12 Griffith. That would give me a chance to assess who good Licata was when he put on his best performances.
Licata was an overrated and protected clubfighter. You couldnt beat him in New Orleans unless you killed him and even then youd probably only get a draw. His "win" over Griffith (who had won just two of his last 6 fights) was a joke and he was totally exposed when he fought Jean Mateo and was battered from pillar to post and left a bloody mess.
